Sunshine Toast

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2014
We call them 'Moonstruck" eggs. Saw Olivia Dukakis make them in the movie and have made them ever since. Sometimes I add some roasted peppers to the pan as she did. (use Italian bread if I have it on hand)

Baklava

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2013
Just made this. It is good but I didn't care for the vanilla in the syrup. Have had baklava over the years in many Greek diners in NJ and none ever tasted like they had vanilla in it. Was somewhat disappointed after all the work that went into this. When I make this again, I will not use the vanilla nor will I use so many nuts. It seemed as if I had too much... Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: May 27, 2013
Very good. I didn't have any Italian salad dressing so I sprinkled some Italian herb blend in the mixture along with 1/4 cup of beer. The bbq sauce that I used was a little sweet so next time I will try a different one. I followed the suggestion of after 2 hours on high I removed the chicken, shredded it and returned it to cook another hour on low. This was so easy and the results turned out very well. Thanks for sharing.

Scallops with White Wine Sauce II

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2013
My husband loves scallops and I do not. I made this for him and subsequently fell in love with scallops. Fantastic recipe-easy and delicious. Forgot the lemon juice but didn't seem to take away from the dish. Will remember it next time. Thanks for sharing.

Polish Cabbage Noodles

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2013
Wanted a noodle side dish to go with roast pork. Wasn't sure if everyone would like the cabbage and noodles mixed so served them separately. Well, all the guests mixed them on their plates...was sooo delicious. I think the butter is a must. Thanks.

Roquefort Pear Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
Excellent salad. I did not peel the pears and that did not hamper the taste or feel at all. I left out the garlic in the salad dressing because sometimes I find it to be a bit harsh. I had sugared pecans from another recipe here, Sugar Coated Pecans by Carolyn, and they were exceptional. I put the blue cheese on the side as I do not care for it and again that did not detract from the salad. All in all, a wonderful fresh salad. Added note: While I have made this salad occasionally, I make the dressing ALL THE TIME. I will never purchase bottled dressing again. I use an aged balsamic vinegar purchased from a olive oil and vinegar store in SF, NM. I subbed honey for sugar. The proportions are perfect. The resulting vinaigrette is to die for. Again, thanks for sharing.

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2011
Wanted a sugar coated nut for a salad (like one at California Pizza Kitchen) and found this recipe to be perfect. I forgot to add the cinnamon but this did not seem to detract from the overall flavor. Perhaps it was even better since I was adding it to a somewhat savory dish. I did follow a suggestion by one reviewer and added the sugar a bit at a time to the egg white coated pecans so as not to dirty another dish. Worked out well. Will definitely make again.

Bacon Roll Ups II

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2011
These are delicious. My friend has made these for years and I have loved them. But after reading the comments here I made a couple of additions. I added about 1/2 cup cooked and drained chopped spinach and 1 tablespoon Tastefully Simple Spinach and Herb Mix. I cut both the bread and bacon into thirds rather than in half. Also, rolling the bread, as suggested by one reviewer, made it easier. Do not precook the bacon as some have said. Adds a step that is not needed- you need the flavor of the bacon and your roll-ups are not at all greasy. Just drain on paper towels. Took to a party and were devoured! Thanks for the recipe.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
Excellent apple crisp, but just a little too sweet. I used less than the 1 c of white sugar. When I make it again, I will try 1/2 c. Followed the rest of the recipe as written. Will definitely make this again. My husband thought it was one of the best apple crisps I've made. I bet peaches would be good, too. Thanks for sharing.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2010
These potatoes are outrageously good. Made them for Christmas day and served them with a baked ham. I've always had problems with the potatoes being fully cooked so I took a suggestion from another recipe and steamed the potatoes first, then peeled and sliced them. This worked. The outcome was so good delicious, my husband is going to throw out all the boxes of Betty Crocker Au Gratin Potatoes I have in the pantry!!!! Never again will I use a box mix. Thanks so much for sharing your recipe.

Excellent cookie! and I have devoted my life to finding the best cookies. This is so easy... I did add some toasted coconut to the top. Were gone in a flash. Thanks for the recipe.

Cream Corn Like No Other

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2010
OMG! This is fantastic. I needed creamed corn for a cornbread recipe and had none in the house. Came here and found this delicious corn recipe. Actually it is too good to put into the cornbread but I will never by another can again. I made half the recipe and didn't put in the cheese as I was using cheddar for the cornbread. I had some left over and ate it right out of the saucepan!

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
Haven't made meatloaf in years and my husband had a sudden desire for it. Did I go to one of my many cookbooks? No, I came to allrecipes and found a recipe for a delicious meatloaf. I did add 1/4 diced green pepper. Don't know why, just thought it might enhance the meatloaf. It didn't. I am not a fan of steak sauce and think next time I will leave it out and add instead some French's Fried Onions. Otherwise, I will make it as per recipe. Thanks, Connie.

Creamy Hollandaise Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
Wonderful sauce. Have always been intimidated by the term Hollandaise Sauce but have always wanted to make Eggs Benedict at home. So when I found this recipe and all the great reviews I went ahead. Did not have lemons so I substituted lime juice. I halved the recipe, used unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon of the lime juice. The result was very good, a little more than a hint of lime. Next time I will make sure I have lemons. I will also add some tarragon- had tarragon flavored hollandaise in my favorite restaurant in NJ and think this recipe will let me duplicate it. Note to all first time hollandaise chefs: Follow the instructions! -low heat, whisk continuously, add butter a little at a time. Your sauce will be silky smooth. Thanks so much for sharing. 2/19/12 Just made this again with lemon juice. Was wonderful! Made eggs benedict with asparagus instead of canadian bacon. The sauce made the dish. Guests enjoyed it. Again, thanks for the great recipe. Note: Never make it with lime juice. If you don't have lemons, don't make it!!

Carne Adovada

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
One of the best Carne Adovada I've ever eaten, said my husband, who orders it in every restaurant that offers it. The pork was tender and the flavor was superb, spicy but not so hot you couldn't enjoy it. I used 4 tablespoons of New Mexico chile powder but varied it from mild Hatch to extra hot Hatch. I also used just 1 teaspoon of salt thinking tablespoon was a typo. I served it with rice and pinto beans. What a meal! Thank you, Delilah, for an absolutely delicious dish.

Baked Fried Eggplant

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2009
I have mixed feelings about this recipe. I really would like to rate it a 3.5. The flavor was wonderful and I really didn't mind the work even though the coating was a bit gloppy. (I misread the recipe and added the flour to the egg and sour cream!) However, the eggplant simply did not brown in the oven and I had adjusted it as others had suggested to 375º. The slices remained a whitish tan, very unpleasant looking. Therefore, when they were 'done' I sauteed the slices briefly in olive oil to get them browned and crispy. Then they were perfect. Served the eggplant with sliced tomatoes from the farm- lovely and delicious summer supper.

Bacon Quiche Tarts

Reviewed: May 3, 2009
Very good- gave it 4 stars because I didn't follow the recipe as stated so I can't rate as stated. Didn't have biscuits so used puff pastry as another reviewer did. Also used cheddar cheese, half the amount of cream cheese(I used low fat) and 3 eggs. Result was excellent. Think I might add mushrooms next time. So many possibilities with this recipe. Thanks for the recipe.

Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
Just made these- quite a bit of work, but well worth it. They were light and crispy. My husband thought they were not much different than regular waffles so I'm not sure I will go to all this work again.

Wake-Up Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
Had this at a friend's house. Loved it but lost the recipe so I came to allrecipes.com and, wouldn't you know, I found it here. Love this website. We had a vegetarian guest so I substituted sauted mushrooms for the ham and it was just as good. I gave it a 4 star because I thought it had too much potato and not enough egg. Maybe I should add more eggs? Thanks for sharing this dish.

Classic Waffles

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2008
I just purchased my first Belgian Waffle maker and of course, came to Allrecipes for help. This recipe is wonderful. I did lessen the salt to half the amount in the recipe and I separated the eggs as I read in some of the reviews that this produces a lighter waffle. All that taken into account, the results were delicious, light and crispy. We couldn't wait till morning so we had them for supper!! Thanks for a scrumptious waffle, Megan
