About this Cook
I'm working on building a recipe collection that would make Julia Child weep. I'm an Electrical Engineer by day and mad cook at night. I believe everyone should have a crockpot in their kitchen. Nothing's mo better than chopping, slicing, and dicing with my handy dandy Wusthof. (Where's the spellcheck button?!)
My favorite things to cook
I love making soups, stews, or anything that can be made in one pot. I'm also an avid baker.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up on Vietnamese food and my mother's a great cook. Everything I taste, I compare it to my mom's cooking. Kind of a disadvantage when eating out to restaurants but I love trying new things.
My cooking triumphs
I have a recipe for what I call Lemon Poppers. It's a little yellow lemon flavored muffinish/donuty dessert. It's a spin off the Paula Deen's Lemon Blossoms. I get asked for the recipe every single time I make them. Or harrassed when I show up without them!
My cooking tragedies
The candied yam is my nemesis. I've tried making that dish three times and I can't, for the life of me, figure it out. I've tried boiling, baking, steaming, and praying but nothing would work. This last Christmas was the last time I made the dish. I will pass that baton to someone else who can work their magic on that ever so difficult yam.

Basic Crepes
Good recipe except for the melted butter. I found the recipe too greasy for me. I used the ingredients as written but mixed the dry into the wet to get a smooth consistency. The batter was a little too thick. Next time, I'll omit the butter and add more milk or water to thin it out a bit. Thanks for the recipe.

Authentic Mexican Shrimp Cocktail (Coctel de Camarones estilo Mexicano)
Great authentic recipe! I add a little shrimp water (water used to boil shrimp) to the mix as well. Try it with picante Clamato next time for added flavor. Thanks for such a refreshing recipe. This is a keeper.

Authentic Chinese Egg Rolls (from a Chinese person)
Really good recipe. These are very similar to the egg rolls my mom makes. I think MSG is essential. It balances out all the flavors. For those who say MSG is unhealthy, get educated. Read up on it and know that it isn't harmful.
