Wow! Sweet and Sour Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2012
Wow, is right! This should be called Sweet, Sour, and Spicy Sauce! Made it as written and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to make sweet and sour smoked sausage, and this sauce worked great. I halved the recipe and it still mad a lot. Will definitely make again!

Graham Streusel Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2012
This was great - I followed the directions exactly and it turned out wonderfully. I sent some home with my mom to share with my dad and brother - they haven't even finished what I sent, and they're already asking me to make it again!

Alabama Fire Crackers

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2011
When I bite into a cracker I don't want to smell or taste oil, and that is what happened with these. I even decreased the amount oil that the recipe called for. I will not be making these again.

Fluffy Biscuit Muffins

This was so easy, and they turned out great! I brushed on some garlic/dill butter after baking, and served with dinner. Yummy!

Pork Chalupas

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2011
This was pretty good, but my beans did not cook all the way, and none of the water was soaked up. The pork and seasonings turned out well though. Would make again, but use canned beans and no water next time.

Quick and Easy Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2011
As written I think this recipe has way too much pepper (I would cut the amount in half), and it's not enough sauce. I made it with one chicken breast and a little bit of carrots and green beans thrown in, and it was just enough sauce, so I would have to at least double, maybe triple, with 4 chicken breasts. With those changes this would be a 4 or 5 star recipe. I also thought this would have more of a Chinese sweet and sour flavor, but it really had more of a bbq flavor. Still very tasty, and will make again though!

Baked Tortilla Chips

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
I used flour tortillas instead of corn because that's what I had on hand. These were a great way to use up leftover tortillas, and I like the recipe because I'm able to make only as much as I need for one person - no more buying a whole bag of chips and letting half of them get stale. I found the cooking time on the recipe was way too long though; mine were done in 5-6 minutes, and I can't imagine that corn tortillas would take any longer than that either. I also found it's easier to put the oil and seasonings on the tortillas before you cut them up, not after.

Crustless Cranberry Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
This was excellent! I left out the walnuts and subbed vanilla for the almond extract because someone in my family has a nut allergy. I thought it was a pefect balance of sweet and tart. The only problem I had was that it wasn't anywhere near done after 40 minutes, I had to bake it for an hour. It also stuck to the bottom of the pan pretty bad, so I'll have to make sure I grease the bottom of the pan really well next time.

Baked Zucchini Chips

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2010
These were good - a lot less mess than frying them. The one problem I had was that when I made them as directed the breading didn't stick well at all. The second time I made them, I dipped them in flour first, then egg, then the bread crumbs and it worked a lot better. I also used Italian seasoned panko crumbs. Yummy!

Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2008
This was great! I love creamy tomato sauces, and this was so easy to make! I used Ragu "Traditional" spaghetti sauce, left out the nutmeg, and added about 1/2t. cayenne, which gave it a nice spicy kick. I have a feeling that some of the people that thought this was bland may have misread the recipe and used plain tomato sauce instead of a jar of pre-made spaghetti sauce.

Surprise Apple Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2008
I bring this to parties all the time. People are usually hesitant to try it until I tell them what's in it, but once they try it everyone LOVES it. I alter the recipe a little...I use 4 apples, 6 snickers bars, one container cool whip, and 8 oz. cream cheese. I usually freeze or refrigerate the snickers bars for a couple hours, then put them in a ziploc bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
