About this Cook
I'm a wife, mother, writer, dancer & tarot reader. I've been cooking since before my daughter was born (14 years ago).
My favorite things to cook
- Soups - salads - Chili - Pasta - Curries - Veggie & side dishes - Stir-fries - Mexican food (tacos, enchiladas, tortilla soup)
My favorite family cooking traditions
We make our own granola -- so much better & healthier than the store-bought kinds, it can be eaten as cereal with milk/substitute, or easily taken on outings as a dry snack.
My cooking triumphs
- Successfully preparing authentic-tasting ethnic dishes (such as Mexican enchiladas, or Indian curries)
My cooking tragedies
- Not rinsing the quinoa (now I know!)

Mushroom Saute
I followed this recipe exactly; it doesn't specify whether to cook until the mushrooms release their juices, which they did in about 8 minutes (I noticed the mushrooms in some photos look "juicier" than they do in others). The dish wasn't savory enough in my opinion, it seemed to be missing something, especially more salt! Nutmeg is an interesting spice to use with mushrooms, but the dish needs more zing!

Peppers Roasted with Garlic, Basil and Tomatoes
I've been making these for the past few years (after finding a very similar recipe in a Jamie Oliver cookbook). I use crushed garlic, peeled whole cherry tomatoes, and a splash of balsamic in each pepper before they go in the oven. Lovely!
