Spicy Chicken Thai Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
I made this and I understand what people were saying now about the flavor being a little off. In theory the soup was good, but with the weird flavor going on, it sort of negated all the goodness. I tried to analyze what about it made it that way, and I decided if I make this again, I would omit the poultry seasoning and the sage. Also, my chicken got a little overcooked. I cut the cayenne down to 1/4 of a teaspoon and it was the perfect amount of spice - not overpowering, but still a little spicy.

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2010
This was great, creamy comfort food. Loved it! It was so easy - I even used frozen chicken breasts straight from the freezer and believe it or not, the chicken was done sooner than the carrots. Will slice the carrots thinner next time. I wish there was more rice to go around, so I plan to add some extra regular rice to the slow cooker (plus the necessary water to compensate). Due to the frozen chicken, I jumped started the crock by putting on high for the first 30 minutes.

Vegetarian Burrito Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2012
This was very good. Though, we are not vegetarian, so it was just easier for me to use ground turkey instead (1 pound). One reviewer wrote that canned tomatoes, plus salsa was overkill, so in place of the huge can of whole tomatoes, I used a 15 ounce can of diced tomatoes which I just dumped in, not bothering to save the 1/4 cup for later. This worked out to be the perfect amount of liquid for my 1 lb. of meat. Also used a larger casserole, which it filled, so do not even attempt the 8x8. Mixed diced jalapeños right in with meat instead of layering. I think sliced black olives on the top layer would have been a nice addition.

Pumpkin Frozen Yogurt

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2010
We all loved this. The kids were dying over the fact that it tasted like frozen pumpkin pie! I used one and a half teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice instead of the cinn, nutmeg and cloves. Ours was not bitter, but did taste a bit yogurty (but, I like that flavor). Used genuine maple syrup.

Perfect Breakfast

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2013
This is excellent. We used regular wheat bread and made a dijonaise sauce instead of straight up dijon by mixing half dijon and half mayo with freshly ground pepper. Loved the flavors.

Chocopeanutbanana Smoothie

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
This is an awesome recipe! I'm only 10 years old and I made it for my brother, my sister, and my mom. The only problem was that it was too hot so we added 3 ice cubes to make it cooler. It definitely made it better. I will probably make this smoothie again!

Delicious recipe. The kids all gave it 5 stars (minus the artichokes).

Sauteed Apples

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2012
I followed the recipe exactly and it was awesome! I served over waffles for my dad, my brother, and myself. I'm only ten and I pretty much did it myself, but my mom helped me with skinning the apples and a little bit with cutting them into the small pieces. I also think that the sauce tasted really good on waffles. I even think that it tasted better than maple syrup. It seems like this would taste good on ice cream and pancakes. I love the recipe! I will probably make this recipe again.

Fried Egg Sandwich

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2011
Surprisingly gross. Not sure how it could taste so bad when it was such a simple, straightforward recipe. I think the ketchup/mayo combo with the egg just doesn't mix well.

Slow Cooker Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2010
In a word: salty! I cut back to only 2 of the ramen noodle seasoning packs, but it was still way too salty. You can't really cut down to just 1, because there are other seasonings in those packs other than the salt. The answer must be to use lower sodium cans of soup. Those soups are designed to be diluted with water or milk, and in this recipe, no additional liquid is required. I ended up adding a bit of water at the end, which helped a little bit with the saltiness, and also helped with its way-too-thick consistency. I used frozen chicken breasts right out of the freezer, and they were perfectly done in the 6 hours (put on high for first 30 minutes, then switched to low). I took them out and cut them into cubes while my ramen noodles were cooking. The noodles only took about 15-20 minutes, then I added the chicken back in. Will attempt this again due the ease of it.

Bats and Cobwebs

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2011
What a fun recipe! The kids ate so well, tying to see how many cobwebs appeared as they brought the fork to their mouth. It kept them eating to the last bite!! Might try with ground sausage next time.

Potato Minestrone

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2011
Very good recipe. Could use a little less spinach and I am not sure I liked the pototoes - would have preferred some type of pasta instead. I used cannellini beans instead of garbanzo since that is what I had and they worked out fine.

Chicken Philly Pasta

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2010
I did not care for this at all, but most of my family liked it okay, so that is why I am giving it 3 stars. I made it as the directions stated and it was very boring and dry. Needs more flavors and more liquid or sauce or something. I also think 1 lb of cheese was too much. I recommend covering with aluminum foil as that maybe would have helped it from drying out so much in the oven (the top noodles got stale and crunchy). Even still it needs more liquid.

Italian Sausage Tortellini Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2013
I thought this was good, but the kids didn't like the broth, even my guy that usually loves everything I make. I think it had too much tomato sauce and tomatoes.

Meatball Sandwich

Reviewed: May 22, 2012
These were good, though next time I may add a touch of salt to the meatballs. I baked them on a rack in my baking pan so all the grease could drip away -- I wish I had sprayed it with nonstick spray.

Easy Chocolate Ice Cream

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2011
Not bad tasting, just not really ice cream. Like others said, it was exactly like a Wendy's frosty in consistency and taste. I cut back the syrup to a 1/2 a cup since others said it was too sweet and subbed half and half for the heavy cream. I just mixed the ingredients with a whisk and then dumped into my ice cream maker. It was still very sweet, so I might try omitting the sweetened condensed milk next time.

Cheesy Sausage Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2011
Very tasty. I omitted the bell pepper since my kids are not big fans and upped the onion to a 1/2 cup, diced. Used bow tie pastas, half and half instead of heavy cream, and a generous amount of freshly ground pepper.

Deb's Scallops Florentine

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
Very good. I used half and half instead of the cream and also skipped the step of boiling the scallops as I read in other reviews. Took someone else's tip of making lemon thyme rice from this website and it paired perfectly. Yum.

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2011
Very good. Very spicy, though, and I only added a pinch of cayenne not the whole teaspoon. I stirred in some sour cream (maybe 1/3 cup) instead of the cheese, and then added pepper jack cheese and crushed tortilla chips to each bowl
