About this Cook
I'm an organist/choirmaster & am currently serving as the organist at Old First Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, CA.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta, bread, and grilling. I'm living with a Hispanic family just now and am learning about their favorite foods, and cooking methods. It's really interesting.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a long line of farming people. Seems like all the ladies were great cooks. The men, not so much.
My cooking triumphs
People love my sourdough bread, and cheesecakes.
My cooking tragedies
Not a cooking tragedy per se, but the worst kitchen mess I ever had was breaking a quart bottle of balsamic vinegar. I dropped the bottle on a tiled counter, and it literally exploded - on the ceiling, floors, me - you name it. The aftermath looked like something right out of a scene from one of The Godfather movies.

Favorite Corn Bread
Very good indeed. Didn't have milk, so I used half & half, and added slightly more than a cup for a smooth batter. Also used plain, old melted lard for the shortening and cut the sugar down to one tablespoon and it tasted great.

Mom's Fabulous Chicken Pot Pie with Biscuit Crust
Very nice, indeed, and a good-looking presentation. I made the mistake of thinking the gravy, or sauce was a bit thin and got it a little too thick, but it still tasted great. Good comfort food. I don't who designed the biscuit package for the "Grands," but, getting that open was the hardest part of making this. Finally resorted to using a knife, and pffft...which was a little exciting for a moment or two.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy
I've made this several times since learning about the recipe. It's a great way to liven up ordinary hamburger meat. I didn't have sherry, and so, I got out the brandy, some of which made it into the recipe.
