Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
This is really good - exactly what I was looking for. Added Fuji apples as one of the reviewers did (although I kept the grapes). I thought the Worcestershire Sauce, onions, bacon & ginger might be a lil overpowering but it was perfect~ :)~ Thank you so much for sharing this!!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2011
I made these exactly as written (except I used a mini muffin pan and baked for 15 min) and I got some awesome brownies! Mine came out crunchy on the outside and slightly chewy in the middle. Topped them with a cream cheese frosting, a strawberry, and a lil blob of frosting on top to make Christmas-y Santa hats. :)

Peppermint Ammonia Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
This tasted like shortbread with peppermint oil. Hartshorn (bakers ammonia-no it's not poisonous...was the first question my husband asked) is a bit difficult to find in Riverside, CA but I found some stuff on Amazon with crazy shipping costs. You can substitute a mixture of baking soda and baking powder instead (like 2 tablespoons baking powder and 1 tsp baking soda for this recipe - that includes the baking powder listed in the recipe). The peppermint oil was a bit too strong for me but on my second try; 2 tsp peppermint extract worked just fine.

Bumbleberry Pie I

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2011
I followed this recipe exactly as written and had no issues whatsoever. This is a VERY tart (yet delicious) pie and the sugar it calls for was the perfect balance for my black/raspberries & rhubarb. I'm not sure why the other reviewers thought differently...maybe their berries were sweeter than mine (which were sweet but more tart)?

Grandma Schell's Lacy Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2011
Of course, I loved my Grandmother's cookies... :) If you don't have Baking Powder, use 1/3 tsp Baking Soda + 2/3 tsp Cream of Tartar. You can also melt semi-sweet chocolate and drizzle it onto the cookies after they cool for that little extra something you might be craving.

Chocolate Mayo Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2011
I increased the cocoa to 1 cup, like others have recommended, but 1 big difference is to NOT use water. Use milk! Naturally brings out a richer chocolate flavor. I added a little more milk to get the usual cake consistency & to offset the extra cocoa powder. Decrease the cooking time slightly as I noticed milk cooks faster. I also made my own mayonnaise using Allrecipes instructions (1 egg yolk beaten with 2 tables lemon juice and slowly whisk in 1 cup extra virgin olive oil). I don't eat soy so store bought mayo just won't do! :) Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Slovak Stuffed Cabbage

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2013
Followed this recipe exactly and it was a hit! Even with all that tomato, it doesn't taste excessively tomato-y and you can taste the yummy, lightly flavored cabbage. The sauerkraut's vinegar flavor cooks out and the bacon mingles to give it that nice flavor. I used the 32oz jar of Claussen's sauerkraut - after you squeeze out 10 oz of the pickled-juice, you end up with just the right about of kraut to layer with.

This is a really good spongecake! Mine got stuck so maybe I'll grease the pan next time... :)

Sweet Potato Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2011
I followed the recipe exactly as written and my pie came out pretty awesome. :) A bit on the sweeter side though, I think I may take that down a bit next time.

Ratatouille

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2010
I cut it all up as thin as my uncoordinated hands would allow, tossed it in a huge pan that was lightly oiled, a lil salt/pepper & parsley and cooked it til it was soft (took about 35 minutes). Sprinkled a lil fresh Parmesan on top of each serving and the family loved it! :D Traditional ratatouille nicoise doesn't have Parmesan, parsley nor half the vegetables asked for but they do add to the dish quite nicely. The only thing I will change in the future is the bell pepper as its flavor is a bit too strong and takes away from the other veggies.

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2009
This was really yummy although mine was a tad doughy in the middle (I should've flattened it a bit more I think..) and I threw in some dried cherries, blueberries and cranberries for an extra kick in each bite. My kids loved it too. =) Thanks for the recipe!

Fluffy Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2009
Via another cooks comment I substituted the cream cheese with sour cream (I didn't have any cream cheese) which works fine but you pretty much get a twice baked potato taste. Add bacon bits and cheddar cheese on top to complete it~ Like many others have said, halve the onions. The full amount is just really super onion-y.

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2013
The red wine and thyme definitely cook together to give this soup the perfect french onion flavor (with of course, the onions) - the husband and I loved it and will definitely make this again!

This is a delicious and easy soup! Italian seasoning is going to taste different depending on the brand...I used McCormicks and it was a hit at my cookie party. :)

Jalapeno Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2012
I would give this 5 stars if I didn't have to read reviews in order to cook it right. Also, don't double this recipe...I had thought it was a good idea until I remembered that it takes a lot longer to boil 3 gallons of water than 1 cup. :D

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IV

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2012
I don't eat raisins so I didn't eat these cookies. I followed the directions to a T and EVERYONE was asking for a copy of it! I suppose they were good based on the number of "Those cookies were awesome!!" throughout the day. They looked pretty and smelled great! I may try it with craisins since I'm so anti-raisin. :)

Snickerdoodles III

I added more butter - and they came out perfect. They even managed to stay a bit more soft than the usual shortening called for recipes.

Pie Crust II

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2011
This is a great looking and easy to make crust but the soda doesn't overpower the taste of lard, as I had hoped. Perhaps butter instead of lard would give it a better flavor? Not a bad taste and the lard flavor is so slight, that most couldn't tell.

Tasty crust - but very hard to work with. Wax paper is a must if you plan on using this crust. :)
