I am currently unemployed, so I spend most of my time taking care of the house and cooking. I've almost ALWAYS got something in the oven, on the stove, or in the crock pot! I am married to a wonderful man, he supports me every step of the way. And I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Alton Brown. ;)
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new things, and my fiance likes old fashioned traditional things...I like to cook for others, so I usually ask what they would like. I like to check '' to see if it's a holiday somewhere in the world, and if it is, I make some traditional food to celebrate!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom does Thanksgiving every year and spends about 8 hours on 10 dishes =o it's really remarkable to watch....she also does Christmas cookies, and appetizers for the Christmas party every year, all from simple scratch ingredients. She has taught me a lot.
My cooking triumphs
Whenever we have company, I usually feed them or send them home with food. Whenever we go to a social gathering, I usually bring at least one or 2 dishes. Once I realized that I was slowly becoming 'known' for being a 'good cook', that made me SO happy....It's my thing!
My cooking tragedies
I bought a Magic Bullet and tried a few recipes from their "cookbook" advice is DON'T! After that I had to regain my credability as a good cook, it was that bad. I've dropped whole trays of cookies onto the floor, I've melted plastic spatulas in hot grease, my hands are absolutely covered in various burns and cuts! Where do I start? ;)

Chess Pie
I should have read the reviews first; I followed the original directions and it came out looking like a waterbed. Definitely bake at 350 for 50 minutes and cover the outer crust, and definitely leave it in the oven after you turn it off.

Crab Quiche I
I used imitation crabmeat, and cheddar instead of swiss. This was so creamy and decadent, definitely a keeper.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies
I've made these as gifts for the family for 3 years now. They're inexpensive and delicious! I add red sugar to the white sugar that coats the outsides for that holiday touch.
