Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2011
So amazingly good!! Instead of baking I microwaved them for 15 seconds. I will eat this until the end of time! They keep well in the freezer and are very good even as leftovers. I never thought cheddar cheese would go with sweet potatoes but it is a yummy combo. Next time I will try black beans instead of red kidney. Make these ASAP!!!

Cranberry Hootycreeks

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2011
I had a huge problem with these spreading too much on the pan! They were thin and crumbly. I would not make these again. The crumbs tasted good though...

Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp and Basil

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2011
This is one of my favourites! It's easy and tasty! You can make it using dried basil too (like in the winter when fresh is hard to come by), but sooo much better with fresh. When using dried basil I think I put about 1tsp. Thanks for the great recipe!

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2011
An excellent twist on the traditional cheese ball. I've served this with thin chocolate wafers and graham crackers...both are delicious. This is really good!! I also used lite cream cheese...not one noticed. :)

Vegetable Dill Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
Spectacular dip for veggies and plain chips too! I tasted it as soon as I mixed it and it was good. After sitting overnight, it's even better. I used a shallot in place of the minced onion and I even found Beau Monde seasoning at Bulk Barn! Beau Monde seasoning is made up of the following: celery salt, salt, dehydrated onion and MSG, so you could probably make up your own, but if you can find it, get it for convenience, plus you'd be saving the MSG. I will make this recipe from now on as my go to for veggies and dip. Thanks for the great recipe.

Thai Curry Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
I love love love this soup! I really hate cilantro though, so I never add it. I also use full fat coconut milk for richness. I make this a few times a month. You can just throw the noodles into some just boiled water and let them sit for a few minutes until they're soft instead of boiling them on the stove. Make sure you keep those noodles separate from the rest of the soup until you're going to eat it, otherwise they develop a very weird texture. So, store the broth and noodles separate in the fridge. I also de-stem the spinach before adding to the soup. This is definitely my favourite soup. Thanks for sharing!!

Tofu with Pork and Cashews

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
So delicious! The sauce is yummy and I make this at least a few times a month. The recipe is perfect as is, but you can definitely make your own modifications with great success. Next time I will double the sauce b/c it is soooo gooood! Thanks for the great recipe.

Potato Chips

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
This is by far the best way to make chip! I usually make Taro chips this way, and yes, it takes a while, but they are always delicious! Peel your Taro root, then slice into thin pieces (using a mandolin is best), then place the pieces on the lightly oiled plate (no need to oil the pieces themselves) and microwave for about 4 minutes (for a full plate) less for a not-full plate. Don't be scared to let them get some colour, just don't let them char. I have had success with this many times. Thanks!

Maple Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2010
This recipe should not be called a "crisp". It was soggy and more like a soup. The apples in the center did not cook properly and there was a ton of syrup at the bottom. I thought that once everything cooled, the syrup might just soak in, but I was wrong. I will drain the juices out, eat what's left and then never make this again.

Lazy Lasagna I

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2010
I really enjoyed this recipe! I seasoned the cottage cheese/sour cream mixture with salt and fresh ground pepper. I totally forgot to add parsley, but it still turned out yummy. After adding the jar of sauce to the meat, I swirled the water in there to get every last bit out and added it to the meat mixture. I think this will be even better with the addition of spinach and various cheeses and I won't forget the parsley next time! I'll keep this one for sure!

Jam Kolaches

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
Overall, a decent cookie. The dough wouldn't stay together while it baked, so I just folded them in half, perogy style. I wouldn't make these for Christmas (which was my original plan) b/c they lack the "WoW" factor I feel Christmas cookies should have. We ate them just to get rid of them.

Bird Seed Energy Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
This is a fantastic recipe! The pieces I took to work for my snack were quickly stolen and eaten, and then I was asked by those who did the stealing for the recipe. I cut the pan into smaller squares so I can just grab a few for after the gym or whenever. I put the dry ingredients into my standing mixer bowl, then mixed the wet ingredients in a separate bowl. I added the wet to the dry, and voila, they were ready for the pan. I had no problems spreading them into the pan, I used the back of a metal spoon. I look forward to sharing this recipe with my friends! Oh! I used 1/2C apple sauce and 1/2C oil as suggested. They were nice and moist!

Fast and Easy Tofu Lo-Mein

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
This is a very fast and easy meal! It's tasty and easy. So far I've made it twice, once with Spicy Chicken flavour noodles and once with Vegetable flavour noodles. I tried frying the tofu in sesame oil instead of olive oil the second time and like it better. Either way, it's good and fast if you're in a bind! Thanks for the recipe!

Peppermint Meringues

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2009
These were very easy and good! I didn't have candy canes (I know...bizzare at Christmas) so I used 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract instead. They were just minty enough! I piped little drops out of a piping bag, so I got a lot of little meringues. I think next time I'll dip the bottoms in chocolate.

Dried Cherries, Pecans and Rosemary Brie en Croute

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
I made this recipe without the rosemary (I didn't realize I was out). I was in a huge hurry, and didn't seal the puff pastry completely. I also did not brush it with egg before baking. I was very pleased with the results nonetheless! The taste was fantastic! We ate the leftovers thenext day. I'm looking forward to making it properly one day. This is a great recipe.

Gingerbread Biscotti

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2008
Look out Starbucks! This recipe is fantastic. I've made a lot of biscotti in the past, so I decided to use butter instead of oil (1/3C). To get the gingerbread into the right size logs I wet my hands and had no problem shaping them into the desired shape. I baked them for 20min, let them cool for 5min, then cut them and turned them on their sides, baked for 4 more minutes, and they were done. I drizzled white chocolate on them when cool. I will make this over and over again!

Savory Party Bread

Everyone at the party I brought this to thought it was great! it was a bit of a hassle to cut the sourdough, I'll probably try to do it differently next time. Good flavour and the butter drizzle is fantastic.

Lemon Cream Cupcakes

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
I had really high hopes for these, but was a bit diasppointed. The icing was yummy, and you could really taste the lemon in the cakes...but when using fresh lemon, isn't that always the case? They were good, but not "the best".
