Sweet and Sour Sauce II

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2010
I absolutely LOVE sweet and sour sauce but I don't eat chicken, so I don't get to eat it very often. This recipe is SUPERB and totally fixed my craving. I made it exactly as the recipe called, only adding a dash of soy sauce, some jalapeno peppers and some scallions. I put it over my veggie chicken and brown rice. I am so happy, you have totally made my day with this recipe. I have lots of leftovers and will use it over tofu. Thank you!!

Simply Divine Meat Loaf with Spinach

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
Absolutely delicious! I made it as-is, but I think next time I'm going to use fresh basil instead of spinach, and use a real onion and seasonings. The onion soup packet made it way too salty. My husband loved it too and it made fantastic leftovers.

Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
I made this exactly as directed (except for more cayenne and some black pepper) and they were perfect! Thank you so much for this. I made them with sausage gravy and it was a divine breakfast! We will be making them for out of town guests too.

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
WOW is all I can say. I have never made buttercream frosting before and I'll never look for another recipe after making this one. After reading other reviews, I nixed the shortening for unsalted butter and kept everything else the same, apart from using real vanilla extract. I made the entire recipe, and it was way too much for my cake so I have a whole tub of leftovers! Next time I'll cut it in half for my chocolate cake. Thank you so much for this recipe. You made me look like a culinary genius and my family LOVED the cake. This is my go to dessert from now on.

E-Z Marinated Swordfish

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2008
Used this recipe over mahi-mahi and it was delicious! Substituted olive oil for veggie and red wine vinegar for white - my husband and I LOVED it! Will definitely be making this again - thanks for the recipe!

Minestrone Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2008
This is a delicious, hearty soup. I used olive oil instead of butter, fresh basil, and added some extra pasta to it to make it really thick. Great for a cold night, I'll definitely be making this one again.

Easy Pizza Sauce I

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2008
Made this sauce with very little water and olive oil as suggested... added a lot more rosemary than called for and it added a superb flavor. This was the best pizza sauce I have ever had! Thanks for the recipe!

Easy Tilapia with Wine and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2008
Made this for dinner tonight and we loved it. As other posters did, I baked the fish in a 425 degree oven for 20 minutes and it was cooked perfectly. Also spiced it up with some hot Hungarian paprika and white pepper. Delicious! Thanks for the recipe.

Irresistible Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2008
Made this for St. Patty's Day this year and my husband ate almost the whole thing. He said this was definitely the best soda bread he has ever had. It was so moist and delicious, it was almost like eating cake. This one is a keeper and we'll never buy soda bread again! Thanks!

Super Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
I grew up in Ohio so I was at Bob Evans every Sunday morning! Now I live in Jersey and there are none to be found, so we were craving some good down home food. I made this with a few alterations, using 1% milk and Boca sausage to cut down on some of the fat and calories. Still tasted exactly like what I remember! Thank you Bob for bringing a little bit of home to us on the east coast.

Blue Cornmeal Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
Thank you so much for this recipe!! My husband and I have been missing these since we had them in Santa Fe in the spring. This recipe is spot on! I didn't have pine nuts but it didn't need them! I lightened it up by using Egg Beaters, less sugar and skim milk. We've found our new favorite breakfast food. Thanks again!

Refried Beans Without the Refry

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
I was tired of buying the salty canned beans from the store so I tried this recipe. OUTSTANDING and I can customize it just how I want it. I eliminated all the salt and used 4 cups of light chicken broth, which added a tad of sodium. I also left out the onion (don't like them much) and added tons of fresh garlic (whole cloves) and, (the best part, I think) rosemary. When eaten with some Tabasco sauce, it adds just enough salt. Thank you so much for this recipe!!

Oatmeal Pancakes II

I made this almost exactly as instructed apart from adding a tablespoon of vanilla instead of a teaspoon and less salt. My family raved about these and ate them all. I'll definitely be making these again. Thanks so much!

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
This was my first time making sugar cookies and it was PERFECT! I didn't change anything about it, and reading reviews, I made sure the butter was completely softened before starting. The only thing I did was add some cinnamon on top of the baked cookies. I'll be making these a lot! Thanks!

Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
Delicious, heavy cookies. I cut the sugar to 3/4 cup to cut out some of the sweetness. Next time I'll be sure to add some vanilla too. I got a dozen cookies out of the original recipe, and I'll be making them again. Thanks!

Mexican Mole Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
I had never had mole before but wanted to try it. My husband and I really liked it! After reading reviews, I used this recipe as a base and made some adjustments. I used 1oz of unsweetened bakers chocolate instead of liquid chocolate and melted it in the microwave. I also used tomato sauce, fresh hot peppers, fresh garlic, deleted the cilantro and added cayenne pepper, cinnamon, coriander and pepitas. We put it over chicken, brown rice, pepper jack cheese and avocados. Thanks for inspiring me to try something I've been curious about.

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2008
Should have listened to other reviewers and cut back on the eggs and milk/cream. Was a little soggy and a little too "eggy". Used challah bread instead of french which was delicious, only the bread expanded and it all stuck together. Added a bit of nutmeg to the seasoning as well and left off the crunchy topping. Will definitely make this again with the modifications.

Jalapeno Hot Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2008
Delicious sauce! Added some habanero peppers and lemon juice for added bite. This one is better than any bottled green sauce and I love that I can control the amount of salt (my biggest issue with bottled sauces). Thanks for the recipe!

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2008
Soup was okay... very bland even with added salt. Added some green onions to the mix. When it was done, topped with cheddar cheese and Tabasco and still found it bland.
