The other half hates turkey.  Not much to moan about because all meats/poultry/fish are not allowed on their heart diet. So we avoid Christmas with the family and cook our own.  This year it was Buddha's JewelsForbidden Rice Pilaf with Beluga Lentils Copes Stewed Corn {Don't… MORE

I have a nice little site on my Yahoo page called the Cooking the Vegan Books.  It talks of various cookbooks and reviews them.  I am a cookbook collector.  If it has good recipes I have it.  They range from handwritten 1820s to just off the press.  Rarely do I get rid… MORE

The recent events including the fact we are now running at least 3 days a week to the gym which happens to be 25 miles away [\Thank you Silver Sneakers but that's another blog post again] has kept me busy.  Last month I lifted 179,590 pounds.  No I'm not the muscleman flexing his… MORE

My car is parked behind the house under several trees next to the raspberry bushes.  Black Raspberries to be exact.  Organic because I ignore them.  I haven't checked the golden raspberry bush this year.  Frankly it would be a loss because the birds always get there first… MORE

And boy did that bring back memories.  Let me tell you it brought back memories.  Back in the stone age of the internet I learned on Word Perfects first edition how to use a word processor.  Beats the typewriter I was taught how to touch type on in High School.  I didn't… MORE

Once upon a time there was a college student who shall remain nameless. We will call him Phil.  In the late 70s, Phil went off to college as many were doing.  Living in the dorm was a new experience but even more of a new experience was the dining hall.  Trust me it is NOT the… MORE

These days it isn't just saving money.  It is something that a LOT of people ignored when the times were good.  It is also the value you get for the money or as one of my friends puts it "More bang for the buck."  Why settle for a sparkler when you can get a fountain for the same… MORE

I decided to play around with McDougall's recipe for Mushroom Stroganoff [Vegan] from The New McDougall Cookbook.  The one they have is a tad sweet for me. 1 large onion chopped 1 pound mushrooms sliced 1 cup unsweetened unflavored soy milk 1 cup vegetable broth 2 tbsp Braggs or… MORE

About Me
Well... I don't really live in Yellow Knife. You need more options under hobbies and interests or let us pick them. You know, like, body building, jeep fixing, Jeeps, car collecting, Zippo lighter collecting, Football [playing NOT watching], Soccer, and other goodies that someone might do ahem.. Like me.
My favorite things to cook
Food? It beats car bumpers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
3 bottles of ketchup for spaghetti or Chili or meatloaf .. That my mother's own recipe. And I ain't joking. I honestly learned to cook in self defense.
My cooking triumphs
??? I didn't burn the water? The big one? I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for my Mother one year she had to work on Thanksgiving morning. I was 11 years old. The only thing frozen in that was dessert. Roast Chicken, mash potatoes [from scratch], another veggie, tomato soup starter and of course thawed and baked dessert which was pumpkin pie.
My cooking tragedies
If you can eat it, it ain't no tragedy. So far I'm batting 1000
