My New Toy!

I finally got a Vitamix. It took me a long time searching and trying to find a good deal, but I finally have a Vitamix! This machine replaces a juicer, food processor, ice cream maker and blender and I really like the fact is a basic machine without all the extra features.

I use my Vitamix everyday. In just a minute, I’m able to make really nice smoothies, juices, ice cream, sorbet and even hot soup. To make the soup it takes about 7 to 8 minutes, the friction of the motor heats the soup.

I’ve been making some fresh organic juice and let me tell you, it’s priceless to see my kids having a vegetable/fruit juice at snack time instead of anything else.
I make a combination of kale, spinach, carrots, and beets. Then I add frozen banana, frozen pineapple, an apple and just a couple tablespoons of organic orange concentrate. I don’t usually follow any recipe, I just add whatever I have in the fridge. It’s delicious and healthy!

This is by far the best kitchen appliance I have ever owned!!! It is expensive, but it has proved to me it was worth every penny!

Thanks for stopping by!

My DS loves the green juice from Costco. I need to try the one on here on him. But he doesn't like to eat veggies. Strange kids I have! LOL

Thanks Patty Cakes! The juice I make doesn't taste vegetables at all, it tastes fruity bc I add lots of fruits... I don't even tell my kids there are vegetables in it otherwise they would never drink it.

I love my Vitamix as well. We just got ours this summer. We made delicious peach "ice cream." I agree that you can't even taste the veggies in the juice. I make fruit smoothies all of the time with lots of fruit and some spinach. Congrats on the purchase!

where would you get one we used to have one years ago when I didn't know my way around the kitchen. Wouldn't mind getting one now.

I never heard of these before, it looks like a really neat machine! I bet you get a lot of use out of it because you seem to make a lot of smoothies and nutrious drinks! Thanks for sharing Rose! :)

Here's a reason you and imateachr to love your VitaMix even more. We bought ours over 30 years ago. It is still just as powerful, has always been easy to clean and has not lost its brand new look. We use the stop and reverse a lot and I remember thinking that would be its downfall. Didn't happen.

oh gosh i loved my vitamix! we made smoothies in that thing for the longest time! we eventually upgraded to a BlendTec which we also love (our vitamix was getting close to 20 years old before we got a new one though!) congratulations on your "new toy"!

Thanks for the healthy tip. My kids also don't like veggies very much and I often buy them those expensive Odwalla shakes as a way to sneak in their fruits and veggies. I bet this would save money in the long run.

What would be a good Vitamix model to purchase for a novice? It probably won't be heavily used because I'm too busy to spend much time in the kitchen. I mainly want one so that we can eat more healthily. Thanks!

Ccanaday, after researching for a while I did get a Vitamix 5200. I did not get the dry container for bread because I have a bread machine. You can get more information on each model at www.vitamix.com. Good Luck! :)

Hello...Lady sparkle told me you blogged your Vitamix purchase. Can I ask you some questions?

May 8, 2011 1:56 pm
I will check later, but 1 question is: The 5200 has the programmable settings. Is that very useful? Also, where did you buy your Vitamix? I found a few stores in Buffalo that carry it. Thanks so much!!

Hi Maureen! I got my Vitamix at Bed Bath & Beyond. I think the price was $499, but I had a 20% off cupon this was the best price I could find back then. A few months later, I saw at QVC a great deal (can't remember how much) but they even had in easy payments. Not sure what you mean by programmable settings on the 5200 models, I think they are all the same. You can also check www.vitamix.com for more info. Let me know if you have any more questions. Good Luck! :)

Oh! I had no idea B,B& Beyond had them. I have a couple stores I can check. How did you get your coupon? A flyer in the mail or newspaper? I will check out QVC too. Thank you for qouting the price so I know what a "deal" looks like.

May 10, 2011 12:19 pm
Usually I get these coupons in the mail, but you can get them online too.

May 24, 2011 5:56 pm
Hi. I did go online and BB&B emailed me a 20% coupon. They made it sound like 20% off (any single purchase) is only for first timers. Well this will help. I don't have the patience to watch QVC. Thanks!

May 25, 2011 3:20 pm
My question is: Does the 5200 have the preprogrammed buttons for smoothies, soups? Thanks!

May 25, 2011 5:53 pm
No, there is no preprogrammed buttons, they are all the same and very easy to use. The difference is that when making soup, you just keep it on longer so the friction of the blades is what makes it hot. I don't usually make soup on mine, I make lots of smoothies, vegetable/fruit juice and sorbets every day and I still think it's the best kitchen appliance we have. Good luck and in case you get one, hope you enjoy it! :)

Just found one of your recipes and looking forward to going through your collection... I have 2- and 4-year-old boys and am trying to avoid boxed snacks!

I have been pining for a vitamix & hope to get one soon! Do you use "special" vitamix recipes and if so, where do you find them? I especially need to hide veggies from 2 of my anti-veggie toddlers!!

Oct. 26, 2011 5:16 pm
There is a recipe book that comes with the Vitamix, but I have found many recipes online... even on YouTube. Good luck!

Yup - a really good machine - pricey but "wurthit". I bought mine in '04 from a vendor set up in a Sam's Club, $425.00 back then. I use the machine 4-5 X's a week for nearly 8 yrs - still like new. Mostly make fruit drinks but also great for batters of any kind and don't forget frozen margaritas - ha!
