About this Cook
I'm a chef-wanna-be without the know-how, time, ability or knack. I have to read a recipe and can't really sway from it without ending up with major protest from the family.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving, but I've boiled a turkey once and made a huge mess of another one. I've given up on making thanksgiving dinners....
My cooking triumphs
Pizza. I'm good at making a pizza.
My cooking tragedies
Thinking I could mix broccoli, ziti & a wad of melted cheese to make some sort of cheesy-alfredo like thing. I ended up with pieces of broccoli-ziti CLUMPS. terrible!

Peanut Butter
I wanted to make my own peanut butter. I bought 2 pounds of peanuts at the farmers market. Yes this recipe is easy in principal but in the real world (with kids, dogs, chores, etc) this project is completely cumbersome. Roasting the nut in its shell is very simple. However shelling the nuts takes a long time and then pulling off that purplish thin inner skin that wraps the actual nut is a pain in the rear end. Finally, it has to be made in very small batches in a food processor because it's not a lot of space. The nuts kept getting jammed under the blade of the food processor. The consistency is really thick so I ended up putting in too much peanut oil. It tasted awful. I'm sure most of it was "first time" mistakes...but overall the cost wasn't any cheaper and it certainly took too long. I would rather just get the organic peanut butter at the store and save myself some time!!

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower
I grew some cauliflower in the garden this year and didn't know how to cook it. I found this recipe and tried it. I actually roasted it for 35 minutes but mixed it up twice and it came out really delicious. Easy side dish with a lot of flavor for so little ingredients.

Washabinaros Chili
I loved it. It was sweet with some heat. I didn't have all those hot peppers they used in the recipe, or the wasabi paste. It would've been way too hot for us. I just used all the other ingredients and added 2 jalapeno peppers and a few dashes of tobasco sauce. It was perfect! I can see why it was highly recommended.
