Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2007
OH MY GOSH!!! Can I add ANOTHER 5 stars - these are definitely 10** cookies!!!! I'm in the middle of making a double batch right now and I had to give a review immediately. I spent an hour looking for the "perfect" recipe to try today. Knew what I wanted, just had to find the right reviews. This is THE ONE from now on; I've tossed out my other chocolate chip cookie recipe (also from this site) and these will be my standard from now on. They are thick, and have a wonder richness from the brown sugar and extra egg yolk. The lower oven baking temperature works wonders for these cookies so they bake slowly and don't dry out. When I melted the butter, I just did so in my microwave until it was liquid, but not so long that it started to boil and seperate. You want to cream the butter and sugars thoroughly (for 1-2 minutes) until it is light in appearance. When adding the eggs, add one at a time, so each is blended into the butter/sugar mixture before adding the next. Add your dry ingredients in 2-3 smaller batches, mixing just till blended after each addition. I followed the recipe to a "T" and they are the most tasty, chewy, piece of goodness I've had in a long time. Try this one - you won't regret it!

Soda Cracker Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2005
EXCELLENT!! I have made this recipe 3 times already since Thanksgiving. I found that if I break the crackers apart once the chocolate has set, but is not TOTALLY hard, they break into nice cracker squares. Also, my family does not eat nuts, so I substituted 1/2-3/4 cup Toffee Bits (found by the chocolate chip packages) on top of the chocolate layer. The bars turned out wonderfully tasty.

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2005
This is an AWESOME recipe! Combining the suggestions of a few previous readers and knowing how I LOVE my bleu cheese dip with hot wings, I substituted a refrigerated bleu cheese dressing for the ranch dressing; and stirred in 4 ounces of bleu cheese crumbles inplace of all of the cheddar cheese. This was NOT overpowering on the bleu cheese taste, infact I'll probably add more next time. Also, by eliminating the cheddar cheese, I didn't have any trouble with it being greasy. I made this for a Couples Halloween Costume Party and it was a BIG HIT. We had to leave early and I was FORCED to leave my crockpot with leftovers at the party because I COULD NOT take it away until it was all finished. I ended up giving the recipe out to numerous people. I KNOW THIS ONE gets a definite 5-STAR RATING and I'll be making this again and again. Oh, I served with plenty of celery, and I think people enjoyed it with tortilla chips that other people had brought for their own dips, too. THANKS FOR A GREAT RECIPE NUNPUNCH!!

Round Steak Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2004
This was a very good recipe! I doubled the recipe for our family of 4 to make sure I had leftovers. The only thing I did different was to cook in my stovetop pressure cooker with regulator rocking slowly for 20 minutes....instead of simmer in a pan for 2 hours. My whole family thought this was an excellent meal. I baked fresh biscuits and served it over them with green beans on the side. The sauce had an excellent flavor and the meat was very tender. I will definitely be making this recipe again in the very near future!

Dirt Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2004
This is an ABSOLUTE HIT for taking to potlucks or parties. My 18 yr old son has worked the same part-time job on grounds crew at the local golf course during summers for a few years. They have a potluck for the guys and it is REQUIRED that I make this for him to take. The other guys specifically request that he brings this. Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe!

Honey Mustard Beer Brats

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2004
This is a WONDERFUL recipe! I'm making it for the 2nd time in 2 weeks....family RAVED about the taste. The grilling definitely adds the final touch to the brats. Planning on making this for a large crowd for college football games this fall, too. Thanks for the recipe!

Baked Cheese Olives

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2003
These were a HUGE hit at my holiday gatherings. I made a DOUBLE BATCH on two seperate occasions and had no leftovers. I did not have any problem getting my dough to stick together, but I DID use my mixer. I started with my whisk-style beaters to blend everything, then when the dough started to stick together I put on my dough hook and kept mixing until it was a smooth ball of dough. I also found if I use a small 1 tablespoon-size scoop (like ice cream scoop) to spoon out the dough, I had nice, even-sized appetizers. This was the perfect amount of dough to wrap around the larger "Queen" size green olives. Both times I prepared these in advance and froze them. When I was ready to bake them, I just took them out of freezer and baked for 1-2 additional minutes, till they were golden. Oh, one other thing - I served these warm by keeping them in my crockpot with the lid off and they WERE WONDERFUL.

Unbelievable Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2002
For JOYCEMOSER - you questioned why your rolls turned out hard - you might have killed the yeast with your heated mixture being too hot when combined with the yeast. When heating liquid for a recipe - make sure it is not hotter than 105-115 degrees F. The other thing to check is the expiration date of your yeast - old yeast will not rise. (I've even found old yeast on grocery store shelves - so check it before you buy it.) HOpe this helps!

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2002
AWESOME! I made a double recipe of this for two seperate get-togethers this weekend. I was handing out the recipe BEFORE I had even tasted it! THANK YOU for this great recipe. The only modifications I made was to add a total of 1 cup of pumpkin for more pumpkin flavor, and 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, in addition to the other spices. Everyone loved it!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2002
I found this recipe DELICIOUS! You need to keep the dough cold, but I also found that if I kneaded a portion of it with my hands just a bit first, it softened up perfectly so I could easily roll out. I used as little extra flour as I could so the dough I re-rolled didn't become tough. This recipe is a keeper!

Plain Cake Doughnuts

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2002
These doughnuts are SO EASY to make. I have never made doughnuts before, but they turned out wonderful ~ Crispy outside, soft moist inside! They were great just plain without the cinnamon-sugar on them, but were excellent when that was added! A new breakfast treat for my boys!

Antipasto Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2002
AWESOME! The one word to explain this salad. It is a complete meal-in-one. I fixed this when my parents came over for lunch and my mom took my recipe - she loves pasta salads. I KNOW what I'm bringing for our next family gathering! Thanks for a wonderful recipe! I wouldn't change a thing. Oh, and I found the leftovers to be just as tasty as the first time we ate it.

Artichoke and Roasted Red Pepper Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2002
AWESOME! I made this for a wine and cheese party last night. All recipes used different cheeses. This was fantastic! I made a double recipe and there were no leftovers! I'm KNOW I will be making this to take to future parties. Really good and not too cheesey, but had great flavor. Served with Lahvosh flat bread.

Bierock Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2001
I found this recipe about 1 month ago and have made it 2 times already! The WHOLE family loves it. AND it is so fast. I really like the very slight tang the sauerkraut adds to the dish. You could also just add shredded coleslaw mix to the hamburger and cook till tender for another taste. I will keep this recipe handy! THANKS!
