Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2009
This is a really good icing. I didn't find it excessively sweet. I used food colouring paste instead of liquid food colour. I like that the recipe makes a smaller amount at a time: easier to work with.

Pumpkin-Pecan Cake Roll

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2008
This is an easy yet impressive looking dessert. I mixed all my wet ingredients first to avoid overmixing later. The flavour is good although next time I would use fresh nutmeg to bring out that flavour a bit more. This was better after sitting in the fridge for a couple of days.

Home-Style Cheese Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2006
I'm sure I could have made great biscuits with this recipe. I added the cheese to the dry ingredients before mixing with the wet to minimize overmixing. I'm sure with a bit more mixing, I would've been able to roll this out. A full tbsp of baking powder seems like a typo. This is a decent base but isn't very flavourful. If I tried this again, I'd probably use half whole wheat flour, decrease the baking powder to a teaspoon and add cayenne pepper or oregano (approx 1/2 to 1 tsp). I made 6 muffins and 12 mini muffins. I baked the regular muffins for 22 minutes and the mini muffins for 15.

Jackie's Special Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2006
This is a really good recipe although I will admit I used barbeque sauce instead of ketchup. I like that it easily took small changes like adding 1/4 cup of finely grated carrot. Easy to assemble. Very tasty! Thank you!

Baked Soy Lemon Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2005
Wonderful. I used lower sodium soya sauce to limit saltiness and soaked overnight. Minced jarred garlic is a great short cut for this. The chops were soft and flavourful. I find they are best done in a glass baking dish. My toddler ate them without hesitation!

Old English Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2005
Alright! I would recommend using a larger bowl when making them as there is a lot of dough. I'm not sure how big they are supposed to be but mine made well over three dozen. They were better when they were fresh the first day. Once they cooled, the next day I thought they were too soft.

Spicy Bagel Bites

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2005
You need to make sure to get lots of the seasoning on each piece or it's not very spicy. I omitted the salt and added a touch of cayenne.

Nutmeg is a nice addition for a bit extra flavour. It made exactly 12 muffins for me.

Frosted Molasses Ginger Sandwich Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2003
Too much flour makes these crumbly. Addictive if you can get them made.

Nice Spice Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2003
After everything was added, it seemed like the amount of flour wasn't enough. It was very soft, too soft to handle. I wondered if the amount of flour had been typed in wrong. I added more so I could handle the dough. I wouldn't make these again.

Nice and soft, but too crumbly when I was trying to move from bowl to cookie sheet.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2003
This is a wonderful recipe. It's very chocolately. Really, how can anything made with cocoa not be great! I made this using half semisweet chocolate chips and half white chocolate chips. It makes it look a bit different, but it's a nice variation.
