I am living in Jingzhou, China with my husband and two little boys. Cooking has become my main form of relaxation.I love getting on this site pouring over the recipes, reviews, and photos, and then rushing to my kitchen to try them out.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking desserts probably because I love eating them. I also love breads and anything that is extremely home-made.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving has a special place in my family with lots of traditions. The day before Thanksgiving my mom and I would stay up all night cooking and getting ready for the big meal. My dad is always in charge of the turkey and ham, and he has never failed to cook them to perfection. My sister makes pies and cakes which is a talent handed down from my great-aunt. Living in China has kept me away from home on Thanksgiving for many years, but I have enough memories of holidays past to keep me smiling even on the other side of the world.
My cooking triumphs
We have a lot of people visit our home during a weeks time. I have gotten pretty good at "cooking for a crowd". It's sometimes hard to take a meal and re-size it to feed 10-15 people. So when I can do it and it still tastes good I consider this a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
There are really too many to count. I suppose the most embarrassing was when I was supposed to make homemade banana ice cream for a group of foreigners who had not had ice cream in a long time. The expectations were high and everything went wrong. Well, the story ended with everyone drinking cold milk with chunks of bananas. It was a huge disappointment

Raspberry Split Seconds
These were very easy to make and very delicious. I think the taste is more like shortbread than a cookie. I used strawberry jam instead of raspberry and they were great. Also I let the dough chill in the frig for about 20 minutes before rolling it out.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles
These were wonderful cookies. I have made them about 4 times in the last week. The first time I made them I used half butter and half shortening. The second, third, and fourth time I made them I used all butter, and they turned out the same. The only difference was with all butter I had to add some extra flour to get them to roll into balls.
