I am the mother of 3 grown children. My husband passed away in April of 2013 and cooking has become a chore and a blessing. it is a chore finding things for one person and a blessing when I can throw myself into a large family dinner. But I will adapt. I love to cook too much not to.
My favorite things to cook
I have learned to cook in cast iron dutch ovens. This is outdoor cooking over a fire or charcole. Foods cooked this way have a wonderful full flavor. I have "mastered" the Allrecipes "Get a Husband Brunswick Stew" using the dutch oven. I get raves every time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family enjoys cooking together when ever we are all in the same place for a big meal. With a son in the Air Force, this isn't as often as I would like.
My cooking triumphs
Again, everything I have cooked in the cast iron oven, has turned out very good. Pineapple upside cake, blackberry cobbler, Pioneer beans and porkchops with rice.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to recall! The worst was when I invited a group over and cooked an entire meal that was for the first time. The main course was a tragedy.
