About this Cook
I have been cooking since I was a kid. I was home-schooled, so my mom taught me how do do everything around the house from sewing and cleaning to child care and cooking. I was able to make whole meals for my family by age 10. Now cooking comes naturally to me.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking a variety of ethnic foods, and since my husband's work schedule is unpredictable, I love meals I can prepare in 30 minutes or less.
My favorite family cooking traditions
It would have to be helping my mom make her old favorites, which have become easy for me to prepare now. I still call her every Thanksgiving for tips on the turkey preparation....I want to make sure I make it exactly like she did, and since it was only a one a year event, it's harder to remember.
My cooking triumphs
I feel I am good at cooking without recipes, knowing what temperature to cook things at, and how long, and knowing what flavors go well together. I like to make up new recipes and make them for my friends and family.
My cooking tragedies
Most of my cooking tradgedies have been from recipes that the family just didn't like, and we were stuck with lots of leftovers. Luckily my hubby is a good sport and will take them to work for lunches.

Orange Cilantro Rice
This has such an interesting and ethnic flavor..reminded me of a middle eastern flavor. We loved it, and will make it again!

Paprika Pork Chops
the taste of this is awesome! I don't trust myself with a broiler, so I sauteed the porkchops in the butter and onions until cooked through, and then baked them in the oven with the topping added on 400 degrees for 10 minutes. I also added twice the sourkraut and sour cream. Will definately make this again.
