Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2012
These were good, just not the most moist I've ever made. The crumb topping is too sweet, next time I would decrease the brown sugar and increase the flour just abit to make it less sugary.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
As I sit here, chomping on one of these chocolate chip cookies, I thought I should review them! My 8 year old replied back to me last night when I told her the recipe was called Best Chocolate Chip Cookies, "I don't know if these are the best you made, but they are good!" So, sorry, no 5 stars but a good 4 for sure. Thank you for the recipe!

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: May 9, 2012
I omitted the yellow squash (couldn't find any at veggie store) so added more zucchini (can never have too much grilled zucchini). I also opted against the mayo but will definitely try it at one point. I crumbled the feta, and toasted the bread ever so slightly...piled on the veggies and I must say, I cannot WAIT till tomorrow lunch hour to eat another one of these! This is the BEST sandwich I have ever had. Thank you so much for this Heather!

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2010
I have not had Sloppy Joes since I was a little girl - I found this recipe and thought it was high time to introduce my children to Sloppy Joes! I was a bit disappointed - I foun it just tasted too much like cooked ketchup. I added a bit of Epicure's Jerk Jamaican spice to liven it up, but it was still not right. I hadn't added salt, so I added a bit of soya sauce (about 1 tsp) to cut the ketchup taste and add some salt. It was ok, but I think I'll still search for a Sloppy Joe recipe. Thanks for the recipe and sorry!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
I've never really liked making rolled cookies - I've always found it such a pain...these were EASY to make, easy to roll out. I baked them on my Pampered Chef stoneware - really makes a HUGE difference - you can't burn cookies on those things. I baked these until the edges were FAINTLY colored - YUMMY! I iced them with the Sugar Cookie Icing from this site. Thanks for the great recipe!

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
The first batch I made was a total disaster - of course, I didn't read any reviews and couldn't figure out why my icing resembled crumbled white cake. I kept adding corn syrup as the recipe states, but soon figured out that it's milk that needs to be added also. I'll try again, kids had a blast "painting" our Easter egg cookies!

Easy Pasta Fagioli

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
Followed this recipe - couldn't wait - but was greatly disappointed. I think this is the first time I only give 2 stars. My husband who is Italian, said it was edible, and the leftovers were not kept. Sorry!

Sensational Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2008
I must say, I got rave reviews when I brought this for dessert for our "girl's night" the other night. I followed the recipe exactly, but used 8-in pans and they were perfectly cooked in 30 minutes. Perhaps the problem with those who found it too dry is because it was over cooked. I will absolutely make this over and over, especially since we're in the middle of strawberry season here, and in Quebec (Canada) our strawberries are very, very sweet, so require little or no additional sugar. I still add some for the "juice". I highly recommend this to all! Thanks for the great recipe!

Shrimp and Asparagus

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2008
Ok, I've been waiting for the price of asparagus to come down and for me to have both asparagus and shrimp in the house before I could finally make this recipe. First, I only used 1/4 cup of olive oil, and about 1/4 cup of butter. I omitted the mushrooms (sorry, don't eat fungus..) it was good, not great. Don't think it would have been better if it was swimming in and extra 1 cup of oil or butter - I would make again, just with a few mods to make it more healthy and more taste. Sorry!

Baked Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2008
I wadded the aluminum foil into balls, but my chicken wouldn't fit in the crock pot, so I had to make them smaller. I didn't find the chicken "baked" more like it boiled. I stuffed the cavity with carrots, celery and onion to give it more flavor. I wasn't impressed with the baked chicken, but the bouillon in the crock pot and the carcass made some amazing Chicken Soup!! Though it was simple to make, I wouldn't make again. Sorry!

Marinated Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
We really enjoyed this recipe - the only one who didn't like it was my 3 yr old daughter who is in her "chicken nugget" phase, so her opinion may be biased... I marinated it for 2 days because we weren't home that night and it was so tender. Just have to be careful when grilling on the BBQ - have to keep your eye on the meat because the sugar caramelizes and may burn if not watched. Great and thanks for the recipe! UPDATED REVIEW - my daughter is definitely out of her chicken nugget stage (won't TOUCH them now) and we make this recipe at least every other week - we love this recipe, even the ex-chicken nugget fanatic!

Classy Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2007
I followed this recipe to the "t" and found it very good. Quick and simple to make, it was a nice change from everyday blah. I would make it again, but change something...haven't quite put my finger on what something is, but I will find it! I found the taste better the next day when I reheated leftovers for lunch. Oh, and I added more zucchini than what was called for. Thanks!

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2007
I tried this, not quite sure what to expect - it was VERY good. The only change I made was I replaced the honey with about 1/2 tsp sugar, as I don't like honey. This tasted like General Tao chicken sauce. I would have added abit more crushed chilies as I like it HOT but it was fine like this also. I'll definitely be making this one again. Thanks for the recipe!

Skillet Pork Chops with Potatoes and Onion

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2007
This was fairly easy to make and quite tasty. I'm giving a 4 star just because I had to modify it. I only put 1 onion because 2 just seemed overpowering. I fried the pork chops, removed, added a bit of butter, then browned the onions slightly. I did the rest of the recipe as stated, but I did not put any salt and I replaced the beef granules by 1/2 salt beef concentrate. It was not salty at all and even my children liked it. My 7 year old who hates potatoes, liked the potates this way. Oh, and by the way, I used red potatoes, sliced with the peel on to get some extra vitamins! Thanks for the recipe, we'll be doing this one again!

EZ Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
It was EZ to make, quick to put together, but we found lacking in something...so we added medium salsa on top to give it extra zing. I would consider adding salsa or sauce to the meat as well, just make sure you're starting with lean beef, if not you'll end up with something very soggy. I would try again, but have to tweak abit.

Oven Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
I've made these before - only with the Shake 'n Bake spices for potatoes. I thought the oil was way too much, so I cut ALOT. I probably only put about 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil, and add abit of garlic powder. I also line my cookie sheet with parchment paper, so you know it won't stick; also lowered oven temp to 375.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2006
I've been searching for a chili recipe that would catch my eye for a long time now. I saw this one and what caught my eye was the # of reviews, so I printed it up and tried it out. I got rave reviews on my chili yesterday, so much so that my husband brought some to his mom to try; she's Italian and she even liked it! I made a few changes as well - I replaced the tomato juice with 2 cans of plum tomatoes that I diced myself, I used dry kidney and pinto beans and soaked them in water the night before. I bought a can of chipotle peppers in tomato sauce and added two of the peppers from the can. I slow cooked overnight for 10 hours - the smell was divine, the taste - out of this world! The chipotle peppers gave the chili a slight smokey taste and an extra zing that was well recieved. This is definitely MY new chili recipe and will be going into our annual family cookbook!
