We live in the country on 3 acres with 6 chickens, 2 cats & one dog. I have two great stepkids - Ashley - 12 & Ian -10. I have a great guy, Brian, who does a majority of the everyday cooking. We love to spend our winters in the mountains snowmobiling. We love to spend our summers out on the lake.
My favorite things to cook
Since Brian does most of the everyday cooking, I love to bake on the weekends. I do most of my baking in the fall & spring. I love to bake pies & cakes. Cookies not so much.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was a young girl my Mom & I always spent Christmas Eve at my Grandparents house. My Grandparents loved to have all the kids at their home for the Christmas Morning experience. After gifts, it was time to begin baking. Grandma usually awoke early and started the ham. Grandma basted the ham with Blackberry brandy. The smell is wonderful. Next it was time to bake pies. Grandma & Mom always baked two Pumpkin Pies and one Apple Pie. Grandma always made extra pie dough. She gave me the extra and I rolled it out. Spread the dough with butter and sprinkled it with sugar and cinnamon. Yes.....Cinnamon Rolls. They weren't very fancy but they were oh so good. The next day we had left over ham for dinner. Grandma would make waffles. Put a slice of cold ham on a warm waffle and top with warm gravy. Sounds odd but it is the best!!!
My cooking triumphs
I recently tried my hand at cheesecakes. My cheesecake did not have one crack. Everyone raved over it.
My cooking tragedies
No real tragedies to speak of. I've never set off smoke alarms or poisoned anyone.
