Slow Cooker, Easy Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2014
This was easy and very good. Minor changes after reading all reviews. I used low sodium chicken broth vs bouillon , real bacon vs bits and did not use any season salt. Instead used healthy pinch of dill and parsley. At last min I added frozen corn 1/2 hour before I added half and half. It was not too salty nor too thin as some have complained. Next time will make a double recipe.

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2013
I use cocktail winners instead of hocks. Soak beans overnight. (Change water to cut down on gas.) Spray crock with oil. Added beans and enough water to cover with diced onion. Cook on high for about 3 hours. Beans should be soft enough to squish with a spoon on counter but still firm. Added all other ingredients and cook on low until done. I like using cocktail wieners and bacon if available vs hock.

Golompke (Beef and Cabbage Casserole)

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2013
I made this and took the advice of TARAWVU. Adding onion soup mix and cooking the rice before is helpful. I had 1/2 a cabbage laying around so I opted for that vs the slaw mix. I have also used this as a base after I had leftover boiled dinner and did not know what to do with it. Using the cabbage, carrots and a few potatoes fit nicely into this recipe. This is a 3x winner in my house.

Italian Halibut Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
I have made this 2x with sea bass my husband caught on a fishing trip. I am a horrible cook and was able to follow as written. I only wish my husband caught more fish! I have now made this recipe several more times. I now chop all ingredients (except fish and herbs) as written and add them into a lightly sprayed crock pot I cook on high x 1 hour ad use a had mixer to break up my tomatoes. (Also a great tip. We are a family of 2. I buy juice boxes of apple juice and small cans of V8 for cooking. Apple juice and grape juice are great substitutes for wine.)Return the crock to low for about 5-6 hours with fish. If you use diced tomatoes and use frozen fish cut into cubes you can do the whole thing on low 8 hours. Put herbs in last 1/2 hour so they will not taste bitter.

Wow! Made as written with the execpt I had 2 3 lb turkey breast. I also buttered the bottom of the crock pot as suggested by many veiwers. The meat fell off the bone after 6th hour. This is a keeper. Thank you!
