About this Cook
I'm a married mother of four great kids. I grew up in a family of Southern type cooks, and began cooking with my mother when I was in grade school. I'm currently 39 years old and I live in NE Ohio.
My favorite things to cook
I love trying gourmet dishes, and making elaborate salads, although my family tends to like more traditional dishes. My jambalaya is pretty famous in our family, as is my chili and my pot roast. I love making seafood dishes, and I also like trying new ethnic dishes- especially Indian, Mediterranean and and Italian.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom's side of the family is from Tennessee, and they like making Southern type foods. My father's side of the family makes more gourmet dishes, so I've picked up tips and recipes from both.

Corn Casserole III
This casserole is FANTASTIC! My Dad used to make a similar version of this years ago and I was looking for a corn casserole to duplicate his recipe and came across this one, and it's even better than his. It's super easy- almost fail proof, and everyone loves it. This is always the first thing to disappear at Thanksgiving, so much so that I've started making extra servings so we have plenty left for leftovers. I've given this recipe to my Mom, sister and aunt, and they all have said it's a big hit with everybody everytime they make it. The recipe is great just the way it is, you don't need to add or subtract anything- just make plenty of it, as it will go fast!

Sea Foam Salad
I've made this salad for the past five Thanksgivings and everyone always likes it, because it's very light and fresh tasting. It's super easy to make and the pear/lime combination is great together. My Mom even asked for the recipe and makes it with Splenda and Light Cool Whip to make it more healthy, and she said it turned out great. This is a nice holiday gelatin salad if you want something that's not too sweet or heavy.

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole
This casserole is FANTASTIC! So much better than the traditional mushroom soup/french fried onion one. I have been making this casserole for the past three Thanksgivings, and it was such a hit, that both my Mom and my sister have asked for the recipe and now make this one instead of the green bean casseroles they had been making for their holiday dinners. The only thing I would recommend is to cut back a little bit on the sour cream, as it contains almost too much of it. Also, this casserole works very well if you prepare and cook it the night before Thaksgiving and reheat it for Thanksgiving Day. It will definitely save you some time if you do it this way.
