Apple Sheet Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2010
i was very excited about this recipe. i had high hopes, only to be sorely disappointed :( first of all, the "cake" part was more like a pie crust. i don't do pie crust. i added sugar and cin to the crust as did some other reviewers. the filling was lovely, but wasted between a really bad crust. i will ask on the exchange if anyone can figure out what went so wrong with this recipe and maybe give it another try.

Cinnabun Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
these are unbeleivably yummy! i chilled the dough, but had problems rolling it as it kept cracking, so i just gathered it up and started handling it til it was a bit softer. made sure i had plenty of flour down on the counter before rolling. i brushed the excess flour off before laying down the filling. i rolled it nice and tight, and chilled again for about an hour. this made it easier to slice. i didn't dollop any of the filling. i used it all inside the cookie. these will definitely grace my sweet table at christmas! Oh, i used all butter, i didn't have any shortening.

Homemade Pan Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
i'm giving this four out of five stars only because i found the recipe directions to be unclear regarding the rising phases. it said to cover and rise til doubled in size, then make the individual rolls, brush with butter, cover and rise again, then cover and rise again! and being a newbie in the bread making dept. i got real confused! LOL, but in the end, with a little (okay, a lot) of help from my friends on the exchange...they turned out better than i expected. they were fantastic. i will make these again and again! thanks for sharing puddin pie:)

Hearty Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2009
this soup is great! i prefer my soup on the thick side, and the addition of barley is spot on. i added 2 more garlic cloves (we love garlic), and didn't add the cheese cuz i didn't have any, otherwise followed the recipe as is. this is a keeper. thanks for sharing suzanne:)

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
having never made pumpkin bread before, therefore having nothing to compare it to, i have to give it five stars! i made 12 muffins and two loaves. the loaves are packed away in my freezer (i used my foodsaver!) and the muffins are almost gone. this is like having pumpkin pie in a muffin. AWESOME. i made these last night, and from reading some the reviews, it was quite clear that they were best the next day. well, i couldn't wait.... the yummy smell in my kitchen just hightened my anticipation. i just had to have one while it was warm. it was like nothing i'd ever had before. yes i know, i litererally have never had them before, but you know what i mean! LOL when i bit into one today, i understood the wait. full flavour and still incredibly moist. this is most definitely a keeper. thanks for sharing:)

Sweet-and-Sour Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
made these for the first time ever. will certainly make again. i made fresh breadcrumbs from 2 slice of texas toast style whole wheat bread. i used 2 huge cloves of garlic. and i added a bit of garlic powder to the sauce. i cut back on some of the vinegar as other reviewers suggested. i used a quarter of a cup. i only had a store brand canned pineapple and it wasn't as sweet as the name brand. next time i'll try the name brand. and i couldn't help but wonder why chicken broth and not beef broth is called for. i'll try beef broth as well next time. i also used half green and half red pepper. i like the sweetness of the red pepper. we all loved this dish and it's a definite keeper! thanks joyce penney:)

Chocolate Brittle Surprise

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
if i could give it more stars...i would! i used graham crackers, semi and milk choc chips, and a handful of mini butterscotch chips, all in all maybe a cup and half altogether and it was plenty. i also topped with some toffee bits that i had left over from another recipe. i used parchment which made for easy removal. soooo yummy, with a rich buttery flavour.

Neapolitan Cookies I

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
WOW! these are sooooo good and pretty simple to make. next time i make them, i may cut a bit of the sugar out as i found them a tad too sweet. i froze the cookie dough as other reviewers suggested and this worked out well. at christmas i will use this recipe with red and green food colouring and marachino cherries and green glace cherries to make a festive cookie. Can't wait! oh, by the way i made these cookies last night and took them to get together and came back empty handed :)

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
OMG.......never had twice baked taters before and wanted something a little different tonite. i came upon this recipe and i had everything but scallions, so i caramelized a yellow onion and folded it into the mixture. i also folded in the crispy bacon. i didn't really measure the milk and sour cream. i eyeballed it, used what i would use to make my mashed taters. i only had two russets so i didn't need full amts as what the recipe called for. these were by far THE MOST YUMMY TATERS i have ever had! Will def make these again...and again! Thanks for sharing ponygirl64.

Butterfinger Chunkies

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
i followed the recipe to the letter and they were fabulous. this is the third time now that i have made these. the second and third time were a double batch because a single just doesn't do it. i lined my cookie sheet with parchment instead of greasing it. one less thing to wash! i left them on the cookie sheet for a min. or so then transferred to the cooling rack. they were flat and chewy...just the way we like them. this is a definite keeper! thanks for sharing:)

Biscuit Baking Mix

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2009
i halved this recipe, because i wasn't sure how it would turn out. this was very easy to put together in my food processor. i had to use half golden crisco and half regular to make a full cup, cuz that's all i had. so far i've only made biscuits, but man, oh, man....these are the BEST biscuits i have ever made. they were light and fluffy. i had some whipping cream i wanted to use up so i used half cream and half water in the recipe. i don't know if this had anything to do with the texture, but it almost reminded me of the biscuits u would get at one of the seafood restaurants,or a take out chicken joint. i also brushed them with a melted butter, onion and garlic powder mixture as soon as i took them out of the oven. YUMMY! i like to make things from scratch, so i never really liked to use the store bought varieties, but have used them in a pinch, only to leave the rest(most) of the box in my cupboard until the due date was up and then i would throw it out. Not any more. i store this mix in my freezer. i will never BUY biscuit mix again. i can't wait to use it in some other recipes. thanks for sharing!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2009
i have never made cinnamon rolls before. i'm not good at all at making dough either, so when i got my breadmaker a couple of months ago, this is a recipe i had to try. i started this afternoon with the dough, in the breadmachine, started having probs with rising, or so i thought, turned out okay, but lots of worrying and posting to AR for help, and i got excellent help by the way. okay, rolled them out, doubled the recipe for the filling, rolled them up, cut them, (i ended up with 16 pieces), left four out to rise, and froze the rest. well the four didn't really rise, as the recipe called for. the recipe said "until they double in size. they may have quartered in size, so i was quite worried about this as well. i also didn't pack them in tight in the pan. my pan was an 8x8 with the four rolls packed in the middle, so when i took them out of the oven, the outsides were a dark brown (not burned). i spread some of the icing on top right away as some reviewer suggested to make them softer. and a few min. later put the rest on. OMG. they were AWESOME. i suprised myself! my son even loves me again (he's typical moody 17 yr old) he ate two. the dough in the middle is sooooo soft and tender, just like the real deals. these are easy, after all the trouble i thought they were. i worried for nothing it seems. however, i do wonder how to get the filling a little more gooeyer/syrupy like. as it tends to get hard once they're cooled and this is soooo not a complaint! cuz it's soooo yummy,

Austrian Tea Cakes

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2007
these cookies are awesome. i found the recipe on this site 2 weeks ago and i've had to make them three times. i'll be making them again for the family christmas party this weekend. i only gave it 4 stars cuz they're a bit time consuming and messy (with all the icing sugar) but well worth it.just a quick note to add, i dredged them 4 or 5 at a time when they were still hot. this melts the icing sugar a bit and makes them a little sticky. i then dredge them again when warm. this ensures a generous coating of icing sugar that looks spectacular!
