Farro Perlato Cereal

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2015
i made this this morning. i was very curious after seeing everyone else's post and pics about it. and i must say, i have to agree....bland, bland, so bland. so i thought i would try a different method. i soaked over night, cooked it this morning in a little salted water. i have a jar of leftover vanilla beans that had been soaking in vodka, to make my vanilla extract. they've been in that jar which has been empty of extract for quite some time. i threw one of those beans in the pot while cooking the farro. when it was done cooking, i drained it, added the milk and some homemade apple pie spice, maybe a tsp of brown sugar, and the same vanilla bean. i thought (duh) it would thicken up like my rice pudding does. then i had one of those "duh" moments when i realized, there's no starch to thicken it up, LOL. so i took it off the stove, put it into my bowl, drizzled a little pure maple syrup over it and had it like that. i love the chewiness, and the sweet milk (what was left of it), and enjoyed it enough to finish it, but i won't be making it again.

Three Bean Salad with Feta Cheese

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2015
This is definitely a keeper! there is only two of us so i scaled back the recipe to suit the one can of mixed beans (kidney, chick peas and cannellini beans) i had. the dressing is to die for. i didn't have any honey mustard, so i mixed in a little honey to my bold and spicy mustard. i also used green onions cause thats what i had. this is a great tasting bean salad with the addition of the feta, which i was kinda leary of. but all for nought:)

Baked Greek Fries

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2015
i LOVED this recipe. i made this recipe as written, but changed the prep a bit. i mixed the olive oil with the herbs and lemon zest, then poured over my potato wedges and tossed to coat. they baked up nicely. i liked the way some of the feta melted after sprinkling over the hot wedges. i didn't really get much of the mint flavour. maybe because i use lemon mint as it was all i could find. i will definitely make these again!

Barbeque Chicken Grilled Pizza

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2015
i am no longer a "grilled pizza" virgin! LOL i made this recipe as part of an Allstar Challlenge. i made two...the bbq chicken recipe, almost as the recipe is written, the other a more traditional one as far as toppings go. the bbq chicken pizza, was a suprising hit. i have to admit i was a bit leary, as i am a traditional kinda gal when it comes to pizza. Pepperoni, mushrooms, green pepper and if i'm feeling adventurous....*gasp* onions!!! but i took one for the team and forged ahead way out of my comfort zone regarding method AND toppings and was quite pleasantly suprised. i used the Blue Ribbon bbq sauce which has a nice kick to it. i didn't have colby/jack cheese, so i used montereyy jack and little bit of old white cheddar for a bit of zing. i also made my own pizza dough. it seemed like a lot of work, but that may be because i was way out of my comfort zone. i really believe that this pizza is as good as the bbq sauce you use, and the one i used is AMAZING! next time, to save a little work...i will try using whole wheat as the crust.

No-Churn Cake Batter Ice Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2015
Whoa! this is the bomb. i always wanted to make my own icecream but never ever had enough room in my freezer for the container. i cut this recipe in half, as i didn't want too much left over. i'm diabetic and shouldn't be eating such awesomeness! but i just had to try it and it very very good. i used a french vanilla cake mix and added just a tad of vanilla bean paste from one of my vanilla beans. the combinations are endless! my son wanted the recipe, and when i showed it to him he said "that's it...it's better than hagen daz"! i'll put up a photo, but it just doesn't do it justice (i don't take very good photos). thank you Emygrant for a great recipe! ...i've just made this for the second time, used non fat evaporated milk plus the sugar stated in the submitter's notes. added, toasted walnuts, semi-sweet choc chips and toffee bits! STILL THE BOMB! :)

Greek Zoodle Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2015
we really enjoyed this salad. it was a little labour intensive as i don't have a zoodler or what ever the gadget is to make zoodles. i did it by hand with a veggie peeler and a very sharp knife to cut the strands. very refreshing flavours. next time i will make the dressing way ahead of time to let the oregano infuse with the oil and perhaps add a little red wine vinegar for a little extra flavour! thanks for sharing your great recipe LilSnoo!

Canadian Butter Tarts

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2015
OMG...i chose to make these butter tarts as part of my Canadian Allstars Allrecipe (oh boy, say THAT three times, fast! LOL) challenge. i took them to my sil and bil's for a family get together, for dessert. i was relying on everyone to give me their opinions of them to help me rate them as i'm diabetic and cannot eat sweets. there was so much chatter about these while they were being eaten that i knew i had a winner. while watching all the finger licking and listening to the ooooing and awwwwing, i heard someone in the group say that they were like the ones you get in northern ontaio! that's when i broke down, and just had to try one! *gasp* these butter tarts took me back to a little town in northern ontario called temagami. i would buy butter tarts from the "chip truck" any chance i could. they were made by a lovely woman in town. i would then order a dozen of them to take home with me everytime. these are the quintessential all Canadian butter tart. they're sweet, ooey and gooey with a wonderful homemade canadian flavour that you just can't buy in the stores. the raisins gave them a nice added chewy texture. i omitted the nuts for allergy reasons, but otherwise followed the recipe as written. next time, and there will be a next time, i will make a recipe and a half of the filling just so there will be more ooey and gooeyness, cuz you can never have too much of THAT! LOL. thank you Valerie Hatfield-Ringrose, for sharing your recipe. it's definitely a keeper!

WHIPPED SCOTCH COOKIES.

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2014
oh manella! i made these cookies over the weekend. the first tray i used a tablespoon to measure out the dough, (i didn't read your instructions on measurement, i was so excited to make them!) and put a dried cranberry in the centre. they smelled soo good whilst baking. however, 25 mins in my oven was just a tad too long. they were browned around the edges, and you could hurt yourself with the overly dried cranberry. there were a dozen of these. "were" being the operative word! my husband quite enjoyed them! i continued to make them the proper size. i made little balls, then flattened them slightly with my finger and baked for 18 min. they were perfect!!!! i drizzled with dark, then white chocolate and put them in the fridge to set up. i filled my cookie tin, and it was FULL and brought them to share with my friends and made some very happy new ones! i never did get to try one, so i guess i'll just have to make another batch soon! thanks for sharing your wonderful recipe and making soooo many people happy, happy, happy:)
