Neat Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
These were good. They actually deserve 4.5 stars (if I could) because everyone except my 11 year old really liked them. He said they weren't "right" - maybe comparing them to the only other thing he knows as a Sloppy Joe - the gross meat by-product concoction from school. Made it just as written except for using white sugar in place of brown (had just used the brown sugar up making cookies). Would definitely make again!!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
Shhhhhh, hear that? That sound is me LOVING this cookie!! When starting this, I was thinking 'how many different ways can you alter a chocolate chip cookie?' Something about these is different - they're light, thick (not flat - BIG plus for me), and just super good. Not exactly a "diet cookie" so too many will turn me into a big, fat, chewy mommy so the 2....or 3.....that I do have, I will thoroughly enjoy!!

Tuna Noodle Casserole from Scratch

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2011
I don't usually disagree with so many 4 and 5 star reviews but this didn't impress me. As written, I found it to be bland and way too oniony - at the same time! Any maybe I'm just used to my good ol' stand-by recipe with cream of chicken soup but this wasn't creamy at all so it just didn't seem like "tuna casserole" as I know it. The kids seemed to like it but I'm such a casserole-lover, my dislike for it is taking precedence. And I agree the previous reviewers - took WAY too much time, effort, and dirty pots and pans to put this together. Won't be making this one again.

Cranberry Hootycreeks

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2011
Worthy of every one of these 5 stars. Due to a lack of cranberries, mine were actually Dates and raisin Hootycreeks (although, like a previous reviewer, I'd like to know what a Hootycreek is as well). Whatever it is, it's yummy!! Other than the cranberry substitution, I also subbed milk chocolate chips for the white choco chips. Rest of recipe was made as listed and it was good. Took a bit longer to bake. Will definitely make again!!

Incredible Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
This really was pretty darn good (just shy of "incredible"). I did have to up the temp to 425 about 45 minutes into the cooking time because it still looked pretty raw and then continued to cook for another 15 minutes (that may be the fault of my old oven though). For as easy as it was, it deserves the 5 stars.

Marshmallow Treats

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2010
Gotta love a classic! Although, I have to disagree with the suggestion of also being able to use marshmallow creme. Tried that in college and it never hardened up. The marshmallow creme stayed creamy so it made for gooey, drippy, limp marshmallow treats.

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2010
I almost committed the horrible offense of not having any hot chocolate on a snowy winter day. Wow,who knew you could actually make it from scratch vs. a little packet?! My kids LOVED LOVED LOVED it! They said that it was way better than the "other stuff". Super easy to make. I thought it was a little sweet but the kids raved about it.

Bacon and Cheddar Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
I was all ready to start preaching about plagerism and how this recipe was word-for-word like the recipe on the Giorgio Baby Bella (crimini) packaging. Only then did I notice (in teeny tiny itty bitty print) at the bottom of the Giorgio recipe that it was "courtesy of allrecipes.com". :o) These were very good and enjoyed by all.

Mediterranean Salmon

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
Would've rated it 3 1/2 if I could. It wasn't bad - not amazing but not bad. I should've read the reviews ahead of time (which I usually do) because it was a bit oily as written. Tasted good but I've had better on this site so I'll probably stick to those.

Crab Stuffed Flounder

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
This recipe deserves 50 stars because we didn't have any leftovers (and that says A LOT in this house). It was super easy to make and very tasty. The only change when I make it next time is to cut back on the butter just a bit (personal preference). Tasty, attractive, and devoured by all. That's a keeper in my book!!!!!

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2010
I know I'm definitely in the minority but I didn't care for this. It might have been that we are cheese-hogs but these just didn't seen right for scalloped potatoes. Taste wasn't bad but it just seems....wrong to have a cheese-less scalloped potato recipe.

Really, really good. And really, really easy. Followed recipe exactly and I was so pleased and impressed with how good it was.

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2010
This was my first attempt at homemade coleslaw. I followed the recipe exactly except for having to make my own buttermilk (milk + vinegar). I accidently poured too much buttermilk (double what the recipe called for) so although my coleslaw was a little tangier than it probably shouldve been, it was still good. I would definitely make it again - taking more care with the buttermilk.

Sandy's Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2010
I'd give it a solid 2 1/2 stars (if I could). It was okay - not bad but not fantastic as other reviewers found it to be. Wasn't sure how it was going to earn the "wow" factor considering the ingredients were pretty simple. In that regard, it didn't disappoint. Did add broccoli to bump the healthiness. Won't be making it again.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
Except for insignificant changes (different veggies just based on what I had on hand), I made this just as written. Defying all odds, my children all loved it and asked for it to be made again really soon (truly one of the signs of the apocolypse!!). I'd give it 10 stars - if I could, based solely on that!!!

Maple Glazed Turkey Roast

Reviewed: May 15, 2010
I'm not a brave cook so I tend to go for the recipes that already have 100+ high reviews. Not sure what I was thinking going for a recipe with only 2 previous reviews but it definitely paid off! A friend gave me a huge frozen turkey breast and as it thawed, I was clueless as far as what to do with it. I made this recipe just as written. This was really good and easy peasy to make!

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2010
Really good and super easy. Darn if it doesn't taste like buffalo chicken. Gotta love being out all day and coming home to a yummy smelling house courtesy of the slow cooker!! We made some with bleu cheese dressing on the roll and, with or without the dressing, these were loved by all!!

Fast and Easy Tofu Lo-Mein

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2010
It is fast and it is easy and for that, I did rate it 5 stars. It's not super fantastic but pretty darn okay considering just how "fast and easy" it is. Didn't do a lot for my attempt at ridding my household of high-sodium, processed foods but for an occasional quick and easy meal, I'd make it again....in a couple of weeks.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2010
Very good...and VERY quick and easy. Made it just as written with a dash of nutmeg (wasn't sure about that but went on previous reviews) and subbed white cheddar for the parmesan cheese (my parm cheese had turned into a science experiment). I do question past reviewers claims that, even with their changes, this was "healthy", but that aside, it was quite tasty. And again, super quick and easy. Threw it under chicken. Yummy.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sushi Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
What a PERFECT combination for my kids. They love sushi and they love pb&j. To combine the 2 was a match made in heaven for them. Packed well for lunch, although mine didn't look quite as pretty as the picture. Must've still tasted good though because I didn't get any complaints!!
