Peppermint Bark

Easy and impressive holiday candy. I used high quality chocolate and I tempered it over the stove. No need for the canola oil for me.

Pecan Sour Cream Pound Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2011
I decreased the sugar to 2 cups and I increased the vanilla to 1 tablespoon. Baked at 325 for 60 to 75 minutes in a bundt pan. I didn't use the pecans. Yum!

Pork Brine

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2011
As featured on Good Eats - Alton Brown, use coarse salt, not table salt. But even still, the pork was SUPER salty and I only marinaded for one hour. Cutting back on the salt and adding more ice water next time. After marinading, I proceeded with the Caramel Apple Pork Chops recipe here on AllRecipes.

Caramel Popcorn

I had no idea it was this easy to make my own caramel popcorn. This is 10x better than those tin cans with the stale popcorn!

Microwave Mochi

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2010
Very manageable for my first attempt. I used green tea instead of water to make green tea mochi ice cream. Also, for my surface, I used potato starch and CONFECTIONERS' sugar and salt.

Doughnut Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2010
We used sugared donuts which might explain why we thought it wasn't sweet enough. I added a melted butter/powdered sugar glaze to the top which made it much tastier.

Rocky Road Ice Cream

Reviewed: May 25, 2010
Just got an ice cream machine for my birthday. This was the first recipe I tried. Worked perfectly. Tastes amazing. Only change was using whole milk instead of light cream because that was all I had on hand.

Lemon Chiffon Cake

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
A trick I learned which I used here is pulsing the lemon zest with the sugar in a mini chopper. The lemon becomes 10x more fragrant. Made my own lemon curd and frosting.

Potato Chips

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
Amazing! Took mine exactly 10 mins to crisp up. I had a lot of trouble with the chips sticking to the plate. Probably because I didn't drench them in oil. I only lightly greased the plate with olive oil and sprinkled the chips with salt and cayenne pepper. Will use another reviewer's recommendation with using parchment paper.

Peanut Chocolate Cake

Made my own chocolate cupcakes but the peanut butter frosting was amazing. Amount was enough to cover 24 cupcakes with a decent size swirl.

Followed recipe exactly. Had no issues. Next time, I will try seeping a vanilla bean in the milk for more flavor. The consistency was exactly what I was looking for.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

I seasoned the pork (I used shoulder) with salt and pepper and then added sliced onions and minced garlic. Cheap/poor quality sauce will ruin this dish! Served with Sweet Restaurant Slaw recipe from this site.

Dry Rub for Ribs

Even before I could baste the ribs, which baked in the oven for 2.5 hours with the dry rub on, with BBQ sauce, everyone was grabbing them from the plate and exclaiming how great it tasted.

Variations that I chose between that work just as well: 1 cup shortening + 1 cup butter, 2 cups butter, 1 tsp almond + 1 tsp vanilla, 6fl oz milk/water

Gluten-free Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2009
It was an oily mess in the bowl. However, it came out pretty good for a gluten free recipe. I made half a batch with no changes but using half brown sugar and half white sugar. Tasty. I tried the suggestion of adding coconut + the two different sugars and it looked a lot better and had a nicer texture than the first . However, I liked how the first batch had more of a peanut butter taste.

Almond Pie Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
Nothing like the Pecan Pie Bar I recipe as I anticipated. Because I liked the crust on that recipe, I adjusted accordingly (3 cups flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1 cup butter). The filling wasn't gooey like I wanted. Perfect amount of almond taste though. It was very sweet and rich despite cutting back 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup butter. I'd come back to this recipe but maybe add more corn syrup.

Pecan Pie Bars I

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
Given I was not familiar at all with this recipe, I followed it to a T (well, except for using butter). AMAZING! Was afraid of it being overly sweet but it wasn't. I did make quite a mess with overflow which I think can be avoided if I hung the parchment paper/foil over the sides.

Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2009
Stale french bread and overripe bananas at its finest! The banana and chocolate chips gave the bread pudding the pop it needed. All the chips sank to the bottom when added to the custard. I recommend just tossing it in at the end in between layers of bread/custard mixture. Also, I would try mashing extra slices of banana with the custard before adding the bread for more banana flavor.
