Easy Chocolate Crackled Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2015
Used butter instead of shortening, chilled in fridge. They were still sticky but I coated my hands in powdered sugar before rolling and it worked well. Moist, chewy, easy!! Hardest part is hiding from the kids!

Potato Pancakes II

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2015
I loved them, the kids didn't get past one bite each - didn't like the texture. Too bad for them! ;) The only problem is we never, ever have leftover mashed potatoes lol. If I make more, they eat more! These stayed together nicely and were easy to flip. They would be awesome with bacon & onions, like big unrolled perogies!

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2015
The kids asked what Sloppy Joes were - I have somehow deprived them of this experience! This recipe was easy enough for our 8 yr old do most of the work, although he refused to add mustard "because mustard is literally the most disgusting thing we have in the fridge, Mom!" Our 6 yr old, who hates cooked peppers, balked at the sight of it but after one bite she polished off two buns. Should have doubled it for the freezer.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff II

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2015
Really easy for a busy weekday. It seemed quite liquid-y but I tossed the cooked egg noodles into the slow cooker after turning it off and they soaked up the sauce perfectly. I did use Better Than Bouillon instead of bouillon cubes, that stuff takes everything to the next level. I had it on high for a couple hours, then low for another 4-5 hours. Kids & hubby had seconds, even the meat hater and the mushroom hater. Thanks Kathy!

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2015
Rubbed ribs with salt, pepper, paprika, brown sugar and a pinch of garam masala; also added ginger ale to the crock pot - I didn't have beer or Pepsi and I figured it was worth a shot! The crock pot and oven method was easy and the ribs turned out perfectly, thanks for sharing Norah!!!

Deep Dark Old Recipe Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2015
Good, old school bran muffins! 4 yr old said "They taste like REAL muffins!" and I agree - unlike store bought "cake" muffins, they are dry, which we loved. Had no molasses on hand so added a bit of brown sugar, used 1c buttermilk and 1/2c applesauce, and coconut oil instead of shortening. Also used 1c frozen blueberries instead of raisins - added to dry ingredients to prevent colour bleeding. The kids devoured them! Thanks for sharing LorrieT1!

The Best Thai Coconut Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2014
I made this without mushrooms, added chopped carrots & celery, scaled the size down a bit. So easy and delicious, both kids finished every last drop. More comforting than chicken soup with our current terrible head colds! Thank you Jessica!

I am a stickler for a good pumpkin pie and had my doubts about this one...but it was amazing! So easy to make it look just beautiful.

Vegan Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2012
Ok when you're out of milk...not much like regular pancakes though! I added 1/2 or so peach yogourt and the consistency was much better.

Added chocolate chips. Next time try pecans too. Frosting is good, subbed corn syrup for honey.

Hawaiian Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2012
I skipped the kabobs and did this as stir fry over rice. Added green peppers and mushrooms. Thickened it a bit with cornstarch at the end. Delicious!

Jenn's Out Of This World Spaghetti and Meatballs

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2012
Made meatballs but not sauce. Added some uncooked ground pork I had left over from another recipe, no parmesan cheese. Turned out great, had never cooked meatballs in sauce before but they turned out awesome. Grown ups liked them better than the kids though.

Cowboy Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2012
Added 1/2 c chocolate chunks, good but a bit thick for me, I like the thinner oatmeal cookies. Worked well for what I had on hand though.

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
Made with regular mustard instead of dijon, no steak sauce, added cumin. Dipped chicken in this then breaded in bread crumbs. Crumbs were a bit heavy, next time panko crumbs.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
I made mini muffins and adjusted the bake time - 15 mins at 325 seemed about right. Left out the walnuts and topped each with a sliced banana dipped in brown sugar. Kids loved 'em, construction workers loved 'em, nice texture and taste. Thanks Janet!

The Greatest Grilled Turkey

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2011
I have never done a turkey on the bbq before but with a huge family gathering this Thanksgiving, room in the oven was pretty scarce! It took about an hour longer than forcast, but my turkey may not have been completely thawed. It was moist and beautiful, I stuffed it with chopped apples and wove a bacon mat to put on top. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

I love this stuff! I serve it with "Orange Rice Cake" from this site, and replace the orange in that recipe with lemon. Thanks for sharing dramstad!

Orange Rice Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2011
My favourite! Very similar to something I tried in Bologna, Italy. I leave out the raisins and use lemon zest instead of orange, and serve it with Lemon Butter from this site. Thank you Lois!
