My first pie ever! It's apple :)
About this Cook
I am vegetarian and have been for about 6 years now. I like to try new foods, but I find that ordering out doesn't always guarantee 100% meat free. Therefore, I end up doing a lot of cooking at home which is fine because I prefer to eat things that haven't been processed extensively.
My favorite things to cook
Stirfry, BREAD!, sweet breads, desserts, indian dishes
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom makes 2 apple pies every thanksgiving and this past holiday she taught me the tricks of the trade. We also have her own Broccoli Casserole for every holiday, which she now makes vegetarian because she knows how much I love it and wants me to be able to eat it even though I changed my eating habits. I've also gotten really into making Christmas cookies since that is something she always spends so much of her time doing around the holidays! It's a lot of fun.
My cooking triumphs
I have had the hardest time making bread. I never really understood what I was doing wrong. But then my friend's mom went through it with me, taught me the basics. Just recently I tried making bread again and was so excited when it came out wonderful!
My cooking tragedies
Every loaf of bread, besides the two I have just made recently, have failed horribly. They never rose.

Apple Crisp II
Wonderful! Everyone I have made this for loves it. I doubled the crust (because it's 'that' good) and used different apples each time (pink lady, ambrosia, etc) and it always tasted good.

Chocolate Mint Cookies I
Perfect - just like my mom made when I was a kid. These are chewy and just wonderful.

Creamy Chocolate Frosting
Loved this. Will definitely use again in the future when I need frosting. Would be great on cupcakes! A good stiff frosting, that reminds me of milk chocolate but is not insanely sweet. I used it for the border of a German Chocolate cake and it held up very well :)
