Honey-Poppy Seed Cornish Hens

This sauce is delicious. The hens turned out great. Had to use bottled dijon because I thought I had powdered mustard on hand, but didn't. Will be putting this sauce on my spiral sliced Christmas ham.

Plain and Simple Sourdough Bread

I was a little anxious about this as I was oven baking it and not using a bread machine. Right after I dumped the yeast in I wondered if I should have proofed it first as I normally do, but it was too late, so I just hoped for the best. And I got it. Fantastic. This recipe is going to Christmas Dinner.

Eggnog Quick Bread

I was actually looking for a recipe to use up 2 reeeeally ripe bananas, and some eggnog in a carton. After reading the dryness issues, I used brown sugar and the bananas and otherwise stuck to the recipe. Sprayed a bundt pan with Pam and sprinkled cinnamon sugar on it and it turned out just fine!! I also added spices, because I can't stop myself from it....cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and ginger.

Cranana Jam

This is the perfect recipe for a first time canner like myself. Easy, not too complicated, or too many ingredients. And the taste is great!! Appreciated the tip about letting it set before putting in jars or bananas float to the top, I had that problem the first time and thought I'd ruined it. But a quick stir and it is just fine. Today was second stab at it, and had better luck with it. This is good stuff!!

Mom's Good Cinnamon Rolls

I did like most others and went with brown sugar and more of it. Because it's Thanksgiving, I have eggnog in the fridge so I used it instead of water, actually Cinnamon Eggnog. And, since it is for Black Friday morning at work, I made it "grab and gobble" style. I sprinkled brown sugar, cinnamon, walnut mixture in bottom of bundt pan. Tore off small pieces of dough and balled them up and lined the pan, then covered with melted butter and sugar mixture, then repeated a couple of times until the dough was gone. Let it rise some more and baked. Inverted it on a plate for grabbin' and gobblin'.

Honey Bun Cake I

This was a huge hit. The lid popped off my cinnamon, so a lot more went in than was supposed to, but didn't hurt it a bit!! I added walnuts because I have a lot to use up, and it got gobbled up at work.

Kentucky Butter Cake

Verrrrrry good. Turned out beautifully. The credit for the appearance goes to my Wilton cake pan....Both Wilton and Nordic Ware turn out gorgeous cakes.

Crumpets

I don't give reviews on recipes I have re-written, so I give this recipe 5 stars based on following the recipe as written. I used a freshly laid egg from one of my chickens, and my Grandmother's iron skillet, and am enjoying them hot off the griddle with real butter and honey, and a cup of Harney & Sons Earl Grey Winter White Tea.......looooovely.

Mississippi Tea Cakes

Mighty tasty, indeed. I first heard of teacakes in a comedy routine of the late, great Jerry Clower from Mississippi, a hilarious story about a Catahoula Cur Dog and 2 boys. I have a Catahoula, but wondered "what's a tea cake?". Now I know. And I know why that boy wrestled that dog to get it back!!

Home-Style Yeast Bread

This was fantastic!! I love the yeast smell when I open the bag I keep the rolls in. Warm with butter is the way to eat them, absolutely heavenly. Slightly chewy and sweet...mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Boudreaux's Zydeco Stomp Gumbo

The real secret to making this, is to crank up some Cajun tunes, sharpen your knives and get out the iron cookware. I had a ball doing this on this rainy day!! I've always hated gumbo because of the okra factor, so I was thrilled to find this recipe. Loved making the roux, it was just fun to cook something that is more or less an art form. (The article about it on this website was a huge help!) Only place I deviated was the shrimp, and only because this was my first attempt and if I botched it, I didn't want to be out chicken, sausage AND shrimp. Next time there will be shrimp, and there WILL be a next time. And it will be a side dish at our shrimp boil party this summer.

Amish Slaw

This is it!!! I had lost this recipe years ago, and I have found it again here!! Nothing needs to be changed, cut back, or tweaked, and it is so great for a make ahead dish for a party, and in this Texas heat, it is way better than a mayo based slaw. It's "soupy" for a reason, use a slotted spoon. duh.

Quick Biscuits

Wonderful! Glad you added the tip about adding baking powder & salt if self-rising isn't on hand. Thought I had some and didn't. Made these today for tomorrow's breakfast on a road trip, so I used another's suggestion of cutting in some butter Crisco to keep them from drying out. But I sampled them with the sausage gravy I made to take, and it is some kind of GOOD!!! Way better than the canned stuff!!!

Easy Rum Cake

Oh WOW. My first rum cake. I made it as written with no changes (except I don't have a bundt pan, but will definitely get one now!!) This is wonderful!! It seems a very versatile recipe, so I'm sure I'll experiment with other cake mix/pudding/rum flavors, even though this is incredible as is!! Deliciously decadent!!!!
