Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2011
Were these carnitas good? Sure, they were edible. But if you are looking for a recipe that tastes like actual carnitas or something even close to it then look elsewhere! I followed this recipe EXACTLY, and the seasonings just did not do it for me, it taste nothing like carnitas and the little amount of cinnamon in it was very overpowering! It made them taste almost sweet, I regret spending the $5 for the corriander to make this recipe! When the pork was put into a tortilla with sour cream, salsa, and shredded cheese it kinda masked the sweetness and they taste pretty good, but if you eat the pork by itself it's not a very desireable flavor.. I will not be making this recipe again.

Cottage Cheese Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2011
For years now I have been making the "Chicken Enchiladas I" recipe from this website, my husband and I both LOVE it! So, I thought I would try something new with this recipe.. Well I learned the old saying "Don't mess with perfection" is true! I will not be making this dish again, I will stick with our regular recipe. I followed this recipe exactly except for using flour tortillas instead of corn, and found it to be bland compared to our usual recipe. We did not like the enchilada sauce, and prefer taco sauce instead. The enchilada sauce mixed with the cottage cheese just did not look appealing and kinda smelled bad. Will not be making this recipe again, but if you decide to I would make one major recommendation.. Use 16oz of Taco sauce instead of 10oz of enchilada sauce, I think this would help this dish alot.

Tomato Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
This recipe was just OKAY for me. I followed the recipe exactly the way is it stated and had alot of trouble keeping the breading on the chicken while it was frying. It turned pretty messy so I had to take the chicken out of the frying pan and finish cooking it in the oven, after cooking in the oven I added the sauce and cheese. It turned out pretty soggy, overall this could have been a really good recipe, I think I am going to give it one more try and see how it goes. Overall it has alot of potential.

Chicken Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
This is a really great base recipe! You need to add the seasonings to your liking or it will be bland. I added onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. I have to say this does not taste like traditional chicken fried chicken, I think for that effect you pretty much have to have a batter and use a deep fryer. But we still enjoyed this very much with white country gravy on top! Delicious! Also, the coating actually stayed on the chicken very well while cooking. Make sure your oil is hot before putting the chicken in the skillet or the coating will start to get mushy and fall off. After chicken has been in the skillet on high heat for about minute or so turn the heat down. Would recommened this recipe, especially if you put the country gravy on top! We used a McCormick packet of country gravy mix. YUM!! Will make this again!

Sour Cream Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2011
WOW! My husband and I LOVED these pork chops! I usually go by the recipe exactly the first time I make it but I had to make a couple changes to this one to save time. I did not coat the pork chops in flour and fry them in oil before putting them in the slow cooker, I simply coated them with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder and put them straight in the slow cooker. I followed the rest of the directions and when they were done cooking I did not put them in the oven on 200, that will only dry them out. I put them in a dish with a bit of the juice from the crock pot. Then I took all the juice/onions from the crock pot and put it in a small saucepan and added the flour/sour cream and cooked on medium heat while stirring, this was MUCH quicker than waiting for it to thicken up in the crock pot! I also added some extra seasoning to the sauce. They were delicious! I will be making this recipe on a regular basis!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2011
This is a great BASE recipe, but if you make it as is you are going to have a very bland dish! It can be really good with the following changes 1.) Do not cover with water, this will only take away flavor, instead cover with 1 (14oz) can of chicken broth. 2.) There is no need for 2 cans of biscuit dough, you will end up with a doughy mess, one can of biscuit dough is PLENTY! 3.) This is the most important! Add seasonings to your liking, I added salt, pepper, onion poweder, garlic powder, and a bit of poultry seasoning to taste. 4.) Make sure you allow atleast 60 minutes to cook the biscuit dough! I also use frozen chicken tenders when I made this dish and they work very well, I find the cooking time is more like 3 1/2 to 4 hours than 6 hours. Very very good with a few small adjustments!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
This recipe was pretty good! At first I was not sure the chicken would cook correctly with such a little amount of liquid in the crock pot with it, but once it started cooking it made it's own liquid. I put the chicken and sauce on top a bed of bowtie pasta and it was yummie! The chicken did have a bit of a strange texture from being in the crock pot all day I guess, but still delicious. I think if I make this again I may add some peas and mushrooms. Good recipe!

Penne with Chicken and Pesto

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
I followed this exact recipe, I usually try to do that the first time with all recipes. It was really good, but I found that there was not enough sauce for all of the pasta. It is also a dish you can't really warm up the next say because the oil from the sauce will seperate when heated up. Pretty good dish, I may make it again sometime.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2008
This pot roast was really good! I followed the recipe exactly and added potatoes and carrots. I will make this again, but next time I think I will cut the water from 1 1/4 cup to maybe 1/2 or 3/4 cup to make the gravy a bit thicker. Great recipe!

Cheddar Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2008
Yummie! I made these with chicken breast strips instead of breast halves. I did not use the crispy rice cereal because I did not have any on hand. I also added a few pinches of onion powder and they turned out delicious! The only thing is I highly recommend having a dip for these, I did not have anything to dip them in and even though they were really good I felt like something was missing. I gave them 4 stars and my husband gave them 3. I will probably make them again.

Pot Roast in Foil

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2008
WOW! This pot roast was DELICIOUS! The only changes I made was that I used 1 1/2 cans of cream of mushroom soup and added fresh potatoes and carrots. The gravy it made was very good, if you do not like potatoes and carrots with your roast the gravy would be great over mashed potatoes. I will make this again and again!

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2008
These turkey burgers and pretty good and full of flavor, however in my opinion this recipe calls for WAY to much parsley, the flavor of the parsley was overpowering! The next time I make these I will only add about 2 tbs. of parsley. Other than that the turkey burgers were great!

Puppy Chow

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2008
This stuff makes a great snack, especially for kids. I am 24 and my mom used to make it for me when I was little, so when I found this recipe I wanted to give it a try myself. It is a little messy to make, and I recommend using milk chocolate chips instead of semi sweet chocolate chips, I find when I use the semi sweet chips it tastes a little bitter. I also use extra powdered sugar. Other than that, this is a great snack recipe!

Onion Pan-Fried Pork Chops

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2008
These pork chops were really good! We used vegetable oil instead of olive oil and they turned out great! I recommend coating the pork chops in egg before coating them, the coating stays on much better when cooking them. Also, make sure you do not overcook them because the onion bits from the onion soup mix will burn. I will make these again!

Crispy Chicken Strips

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2008
This was a pretty good recipe, we could not find seasonsed bread crumbs at our grocery store, only plain and italian. So I used plain bread crumbs and added onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper for added flavor and they turned out pretty good. I will make these again.

Fabulous Fajitas

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2008
This fajita recipe just did not do it for my husband and I. It did not taste bad, however it taste nothing like fajitas, so if you are looking for an authetic tasting fajita I would recommend trying another recipe. I am going to stick with my usual fajita recipe and am going to post it on the site to share with others.

Fried Pork Chop

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2008
This is a great base recipe, the pork chops turn out nice a moist. However, for better flavor I added 1 tsp. of onion powder and 1/2 tsp of garlic powder and they were DELICIOUS! Sometimes when we feel like something spicy I will also add a few dashes of chili powder, cumin, and red pepper. They are great both ways!
