Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: May 20, 2009
To be fair to the rating system I made this recipe as it is written (and so should everyone else). This is a great recipe and I really liked how the cookies turned out. I followed the recipe exactly, even down to the minutes of cooking. SUGGESTIONS: cream the butter and sugars very well before adding the dry pudding mix. Using cooled, room temp baking sheets work best as to avoid spreading. Do not overbake - every oven is different, but I baked my cookies for exactly 12 minutes and the result was a slight crunch on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside - my perfect cookie. Some other suggestions are to add more vanilla which enhances the flavor a bit, too. These are great cookies!

Breakfast Casserole III

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
This recipe (as written) is pretty good. I prefer this type of casserole over the others on this site that require bread in the mixture. I do add more seasonings (Mrs. Dash Table Blend) green onions and only use a bad of hashbrowns rather than baking my own potatoes so to speed things up. Very good!

Very good recipe. I believe that deviled eggs should be tasty and not bland. The seasonings are perfect!

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
This recipe AS IS deserves 5 stars!!! Really simple and very delicious. I have also made various modifications (because I just always do) like adding nutmeg, some cloves, raisins and grated apple. I have also tried substituting 1/2 c. applesauce for oil and still the cake is great. I also cut the powdered sugar back by 1/2 c. the second time around. My advice is to remember to preheat your oven for at least 20 minutes to ensure even and thorough baking. Great recipe!

Cherry Snowballs

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
Tips for these cookies that I found helpful: 1. SOFT BUTTER - if not your dough will spread. 2. DOUBLE THE POWDERED SUGAR in the dough - it will be just enough without going overboard. 3. DRY THE CHERRIES with a paper towel so that juice isn't dripping everywhere. 4. POWDER YOUR FINGERS w/ powdered sugar as you roll the cherries into the dough - it will make it much, much easier. 5. ADD NUTS, finely chopped, for more flavor in the dough - I used pecans and it was great! These cookies are gorgeous and were a big hit at a Christmas Cookie exchange that I participated in recently.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

This recipe is great. I did not change anything or make any substitutions. The second time I used this recipe I did not melt the butter and still ended up with a fantastic cookie. Thanks!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
To give a fair review I made the recipe as is and sure enough it is great. You cannot go wrong with this recipe at all. MY CHANGES: I added a little more of each spice, used only 2 cups of sugar, used 1/2 c. oil, 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce and added chopped walnuts and chocolate chips.

Teriyaki Sauce and Marinade

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
This sauce really is the best teriyaki sauce/marinade recipe. It reminds me of the authentic Hawaiian teriyaki (and that stuff is great). CHANGES: I never use the rice wine and don't think that it is needed. Use 1/3 c. honey instead of sugar for a fuller flavor.

Pie Crust V

CHANGES: added 1 tsp vanilla and used 1/4 cup sugar. I mixed all the ingredients IN the pie dish and pressed it into the dish rather than rolling it out. This way was faster and easier to to. Good recipe - will use many, many times.

Meatloaf With A Bite

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2008
Very good recipe. The amount of salsa was just perfect, and kept the meat from drying out. If you don't like salsa, then don't make this recipe. Other reviewer complained that it tasted like taco meat...well, the salsa makes it that way! I did add a couple of shakes of chili powder and garlic powder to my mixture for added flavor. Great! I make this every two weeks and we devour it. It's the only meatloaf recipe that my husband will eat.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2008
Great tasting recipe. I certainly would not go back to boxed brownies. To avoid getting dry brownies try under-baking a bit. FOR MOIST, CHEWY BROWNIES IN A 9X13: double everything except for the eggs (only use 2 or 3). Omit the baking soda all together. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes. I used 3/4 c. cocoa (when doubling the recipe), for a richer chocolate taste, but not necessary. The key to making fudgey brownie that is not dry or cake-like is to not over bake the brownie and definitely omit the baking powder. Great recipe! Thanks. UPDATE: don't use a mixer! Beat everything by hand or you will overbeat the mixture and get a more cakey result. These brownies are not suppose to taste like a box mix - but are wonderful and better than the box!

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2008
Very good recipe. We liked it very much. I think that the taco seasoning is too salty, so instead I sprinkled chili powder and cumin on both sides of the chicken breasts for flavor. At one time I shredded the chicken and mixed it back into the salsa/cheese mixture for chicken tacos. YUM!

World's Best Key Lime Pie

Reviewed: May 26, 2008
This is just O.K., but not fabulous. I like that it is easy and nothing to sweat over. The variation that I prefer is this: one can of limeade concentrate, 1 can sweetened condensed milk (mix together). Whip 2 cups of heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the cream with the lime/milk mixture - do not over mix. Pour into 2 graham cracker pie shells. Let sit for three hours or overnight. This is a fluffy, creamy mousse-type of a pie. Very good!

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
This sauce is much like my own recipe, minus the anchovy flavoring. I like this recipe, but still prefer to use sugar instead of honey. I always start with onions and minced garlic, saute in olive oil. I stead of water I use 6 oz of tomato sauce to keep the tomato flavor rich. Try using a few fennel seeds to add flavor as well. Good recipe.

No Bake Cookies V

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2008
I love this recipe because it's fast, easy and there is no fuss in making them. Make sure to bring the sugar/butter/milk/cocoa to a FULL,ROLLING BOIL for exactly 1 minute, or the cookies will be mushy and the shape will not hold. Either smooth or chunky PB works well - I prefer smooth. MY ADDITIONS: added 1/2 c. more oatmeal (to avoid mushiness), milled or whole flax seed is great for more nutritional value, and for added flavor I throw in 1/2 c. coconut. Yum!

Easy, fast and delicious! I used vanilla extract and threw in 1/4 c. of slivered toasted almonds for flavor and WOW, sooooo delicious. The baking and preparing were simple. I used a pizza cutter for easier cutting. I will definitely use this recipe many more times.
