About this Cook
I have a great job which allows me to travel (and eat!) but my best foodie moments are triumphs in my Florida kitchen. Recently moved here from Georgia, so my heart is in Southern food. I also love Greek, Italian, Japanese, ...ok. All food! This is my favorite website. Love your recipes, reviews, videos and tips.
My favorite things to cook
Chicken and dumplings (from scratch), all kinds of soups and stews, fish, fresh bread, kids' dishes, slow cooker meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Fried chicken, red velvet cake, sweet potato souffle, turkey and dressing, slow cooked pot roast, biscuits and gravy, cornbread, soup beans, cheesy potato soup.
My cooking triumphs
Cranberry stuffed pork roast to complete a Thanksgiving Feast at a table with which Martha Stewart would have been pleased! I also mastered homemade buttermilk biscuits with sawmill gravy after years of practice runs.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to mention! ! Of course, I cooked my first turkey with the bag of giblets still inside, and as a real rookie, tried to cook frozen chicken breasts without thawing!

Chili-Roasted Kale
Delicious just as written. My "I don't eat kale"ers loved it. 4 cups becomes a pretty small amount. I'd call it two servings. Good with chili flakes, too.

Garlic Cheddar Chicken
Loved this! Followed the recipe, just doubled the garlic. Not a crumb left.

Beef Tips and Merlot Gravy with Beef and Onion Rice
Ok, had to alter a bit, so bear with me. The recipe is great! I subbed Marsala for merlot, and think any red wine would be great. I didn't realize I was low on Worcestershire so in step 1, I added some olive oil and wine to make a thick coating liquid. Then followed the recipe, except I simmered on the stove instead of slow cooker. Took a couple of hours then made rice. No browning sauce here, so just browned per recipe then added ingredients as written. Love how the rice came out and there was plenty of gravy. I always add garlic powder, onion powder and heat (like red pepper flakes) to everything to our taste. Wow! this is a winner!!!! Oh, and had to use sirloin tip steaks that we cut into tips because that's what the grocery store had.
