General Tsao's Chicken II

Reviewed: May 17, 2011
Okay, so in my humble opinion, when ordering General Tso Chicken, Sesame Chicken or Orange Chicken from a Chinese restaurant, the base sauce reicpe is the same, they simply add spice to the General Tso, sesame seeds to the Sesame Chicken, and orange peel (with a little spice) to the Orange Chicken. So, that being said, you can do the same with this recipe. I omitted the red chili's because I don't like the spice and added a little extra orange peel because I like it citrusy. I also used fresh ginger (chopped) instead of ground and again, it's just a personal preference. The soy sauce I used was called Ponzi sauce which is a soy sauce with a citrusy flavor to it....are you starting to see the pattern with me =) All in all this is a great recipe and I will definitely be making again and again. Thank you ChefDaddy!!

German Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
Nobody at my dinner table ate this....they INHALED it!! LOL This was awesome! I might rate this twice just so I can give it 10 Stars! Like another reviewer, I was concerned about adding the hot liquid to the meat when beginning to marinate, so the only thing different I did was I didn't heat the brine. Mixed everything in the big ziploc bag then placed the meat in and mixed to cover the meat; placed the bag in my roasting pan and put in my fridge (have an extra fridge in my basement) I turned the bag once or twice a day for 3 days then cooked as directed. Came out fantastic! Thanks Cathy! This one's a keeper for sure!

German Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2010
Yum! I'll never each jarred red cabbage again! This was amazing! I substituted beer for the water and used rome apples because that is what I had on hand. I served it with Schnitzel but had it as a side dish a few nights in a row with quiche one night and meatloaf the next. I tastes great no matter what you serve it with. Will be making agian and again. Thanks for the recipe!!

Lemon Chicken Piccata

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
Restaurant quality for sure!! This was Delicious...with a capital D!! I made very slight changes: Used olive oil instad of vegetable oil; used Italian bread crumbs instead of flour; used 1/2 cup chicken broth and 1/2 cup white wine; left out the capers just because I'm not a fan and tripled the fresh parsley. My family LOVED it!! This dish will have people thinking you prepared/cooked for hours but it's easy and delicious!!! Thanks for such a great recipe!

Stuffed Peppers My Way

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
Delicious!! I start with 1 clove of chopped garlic in the olive oil and cook about 30 seconds then add the onion. I also chop up the tops of the peppers that I removed (of course removing the stems first) and add them in with the onion. I use fresh basil just because I love it. Instead of fresh tomatoes, I used a can of Delmonte diced tomatoes with garlic and oregano draining off the liquid. I also lightly spray the outside of the peppers (I use orange peppers because I don't care for green peppers) with olive oil from my Misto just before the roasting step and finally, I add a bit of chopped fresh parsley to the tops of the stuffed peppers just before their final baking. A very easy quick dinner or side dish (depending on your appetitie) Thanks Sandy!

Mama's Asian Chicken and Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
I thought the sauce on this was very tasty, better than take-out, but maybe a little on the sweet side. Next time I might decrease the brown sugar just a bit and maybe add some steamed broccoli and maybe some sesame seeds. I had never heard of Chinese Five-Spice but was very happy to find it at my local supermarket. I think it added lots of flavor. I used Jasmine rice instead of white rice and it was great! Overall this was a great recipe!! Thanks for sharing!!

Blue Cheese Beef Tenderloin

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
This was awesome. The only change I made was instead of 1/2 cup of teriyaki I used 1/4 cup teriyaki and 1/4 cup soy sauce. Also, I marinated mine overnight, a full 24 hours. I didn't the use the blue cheese sauce on my own serving but everybody who did raved!! Thanks for such a great recipe..it's a keeper for sure!!

Chicken Noodle Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
Excellent! I did have to substitute a couple of things because of what I had on hand. I used Fontina cheese instead of Cheddar and Campanelle pasta instead of Egg Noodles. This was a huge hit in our house and will definately be making it again...and again...and again!

Chicken In Basil Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2009
Excellent!! This was better than you get at a fine restaurant!! I did make slight changes as per other reviewers suggestions, after the chicken was done and removed from the pan I added a bit of evoo and then sauted 3 cloves of chopped garlic, used white wine instead of chicken broth and used roasted peppers instead of pimentos. Also, grated my own parmesan. Using fresh basil definately makes a difference! This was a big hit...everyone loved it...even the picky ones! Thanks for such a great recipe!

Caramel Apple Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
I made this as an extra dessert for a dinner party I gave a few weeks ago. Everyone LOVED it!! I made exactly as written, didn't change a thing. Guests were not only using it to dip the apples in, they were pouring it over the other desserts (cakes and ice cream) as a topping!! Will definately be making again. Thanks for the recipe!

Fluffy Cheesecake Dessert

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
Yum!! This a great dissert! I used shortbread cookies instead of the vanilla wafers and it turned out very tasty. Next time I'm going to try pineapple juice instead of the orange. The filling would also make a great fruit dip in the summer. Thanks for the recipe...it's definately a keeper!

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
Very Good...Very Authentic. I like raisins in my Soda Bread so I added about 1 1/2 cups of golden raisins. I let the raisins soak in the buttermilk for about 15 minutes then added the buttermilk/raisins to the recipe when called for. Also, I baked for 1 hour at 350 degrees to prevent over-browning of the bread.

Half-Time Nibblin' Dijon-Ranch Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2008
These wings are FANTASTIC! A nice change from Buffalo wings...and these were super easy to make, no deep frying needed. I gave them about 7 minutes on broil once they were done cooking just to brown/crisp them up a bit...they came out perfect! Thanks, this is definately a keeper.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2008
This recipe was a big hit at a recent family party. The aroma, while mixing all the ingredients, made my mouth water!! And although I was expecting a creamier, thinner consistency, like the Spinach Artichoke Dips served at Applebee's or Ruby Tuesday's, I thought it was very tasty. It's definately a keeper. I think I'll play with it a bit to see if I can get a thinner consistency.

Chocolate Billionaires

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2008
I made these tasty treats (18 dozen of them) for a Christmas Cookie Exchange party I was invited to. Not only did the ladies at the party rave about them, but the following week when I saw their families at another Christmas party their hubbies and kids all asked if I had brought more of them!!! I've added this one to my recipe box and will surely be making them again and again! Thanks for the recipe!

Famous Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2008
Very Easy! VERY TASTY! I didn't have the crackers in the house so I used homemade bread crumbs I had on hand (bought at a local specality shop) to the bread crumbs I added garlic powder (instead of the garlic salt) McCormick's Italian Seasoning, Sage and some dried minced onion. Once in the casserole dish I added the chunks of butter between the chops and the salt and pepper on top. Delicious...everyone loved it! Thanks!

Cranberry Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2007
Delicious! I had to make a few changes because of diets and ingredients on hand. First, I seasoned the chicken with McCormick's Seasoned Pepper. I used fat free Parmesam instead of the mozzarella and low fat/low sodium cream of chicken soup. I used Pepperidge Farm Herb Seasoned stuffing mix and I didn't have the cranberries so I drained a can of pineapple chuncks, squeezed out as much liquid as I could with paper towels and threw them in the chopper. Completely omitted the butter. All in all it was a huge hit! The wine added a GREAT flavor!
