Really a fantastic recipe and a fantastic pie! I had never made a pie before in my life, and I made this for a Thanksgiving Day celebration, and it received rave reviews. I used the "Best Ever Pie Crust" recipe at Allrecipes submitted by Jean Haseloh. I used six small granny smith apples, soaked in lemon juice and sugar, for freshness. I used a 9-inch glass pie dish , and added 1 tbsp. cinnamon, 1 tsbp. nutmeg, and 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract to the sauce. (I took out a tbsp. of the 1/2 cup water because of the vanilla.) For the crust, I cut a heart shape in the middle of the pie, and filled it with the leftover sauce, and cut a few slivers on the sides for cooling purposes. Thank you so much for the recipe -- it also works great with vanilla ice cream.
