Rum Swizzles

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2012
This was amazing. I left out the grenadine and the second batch I used a whole bottle of Ginger Beer and everyone liked the extra ginger flavor.

Wisconsin Bratwurst

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
My father is from Wisconsin and my Mother is German, so I grew up on brats. I always cook my brats in beer before grilling(my father hates that) but wondered if adding the onions and butter would add to the taste and it did. The only reason I gave this only 3 stars is the poking of the bratwurst. If someone trying this recipe did this they would be robbed of the juicy explosion you get when you bite into a properly cooked bratwust! And ketchup?...never should it touch a bratwurst!

Chicken with Rice (Arroz con Pollo)

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
This is fantastic as is, but the second time I made it I added a diced seeded jalapeno when I added the rice and I used white wine in place of the 1/2 cup of water.

This was so yummy. I only used 3 lemons since thats all I had and I added some fresh oregano from the garden. I'll try it with more lemon next time.

Smothered Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2008
I love this recipe! It's very good as is and easy to change by adding different ingrediants and spices. I allways add minced garlic at the end of browning the potatoes.Sometimes I add some fresh rosemary and lemon juice and sometime jalapenos and cumin. You can let your imagination go wild with this one.

Absolute Mexican Cornbread

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
I thought I made pretty good cornbread till I tried this. Now I know I make the BEST cornbread with this recipe. If I know everyone i'm serving this to can handle it I replace all the cheese with shredded pepper jack cheese. Perfect cornbread!!

Grandma's Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2007
So Good!! I used cider in place of OJ since I didn't have it. Next time I will try it with OJ and see if it taste as good with 1/2 the butter. If it needs all the butter, so be it. It's worth the calories!

Jambalaya Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2007
This recipe is great as is(except for canned shrimp) but with a few changes it's fantastic. I use 1 family size or 2 reg. size Zatarain's Jambalaya Mix prepared with out adding the shrimp or ham. I use 1/2-1 lb of fresh or frozen shrimp, green onions, and Cajun spice in place of salt. Dependimg on who I am serving I also add cayenne to the dressing. Sometime I add some sliced pickled okra for an authentic Jambalaya.

Dennie's Fresh Lobster Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
I live in Massachusettes and served this on Christmas Eve and everyone said it was the best Lobser Salad they ever tasted! I think that says it all since all my guests were from New Enland. I followed the recipe except I added A small amount of fresh lemon juice. I trippled the recipe so it cost almost $100 to make, but was worth every penny. I served it on mini croissants and they were a huge hit.

Perfect Pressure Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2006
I did this in my crockpot and it was excellent. I added some red wine in place of half the beef broth and thickened the suace with some cornstarch. I also added a few tbl. of creme freche at the end. Don't salt the roast before browning coz the mixes are really salty. Iv'e made this a few times and given the recipe to many friends and everyone loves it.

Baked Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2006
Iv'e yet to find a chicken recipe that comes out good in the crock pot. It always overcooks and dries out and this was no exception. I even tried it a second time with a whole frozen chicken and it still was overcooked. I have discovered that the crockpot makes an excellent chicken stock though.

Chocolate Truffle Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2006
These cookies ROCK! But beware, you must really love chocolate and they are full of deep dark chocolte. I used relly good chocolate(Valrhona) in the 3 batches I made and it was well worth the expense. I gave them as Christmas gifts along with homemade truffles and Iv'e already had calls for the recipe. The only change I made was to add toasted hazelnuts. Yum!

This was so good. I used extra garlic and cheese and added a couple chopped plum tomatoes that were left from the garden. I'll be making it again and again.
