About this Cook
I guess I'd say I'm a typical 20-something. I work, go to the gym, spend time with friends and family, and share my apartment with my fat cat :) I've been cooking on and off for the past few years, and I enjoy it more and more. It relaxes me and is one of my favorite things to do. Plus I looooove cooking for other people. I'm a vegetarian, but I will try cooking anything, meat or no meat. Cooking healthy is also very important to me, and I like passing that around :)
My favorite things to cook
Warm comfort foods! French onion soup, bruschetta, casseroles, I love my slow-cooker... anything that makes my apartment smell delicious.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When all the ladies in my family are smushed into Grammy's little kitchen, cooking before and cleaning after Christmas Eve dinner.
My cooking triumphs
Outdid myself with my vegetarian chili made in the slow-cooker with vegetarian ground beef. I referenced a few recipes here so I could get a good idea of what spices to use, decided to wing it, and wound up with my first original recipe. Never thought I'd manage that:) And day to day, when I cook something up that is really enjoyed by my family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
I sadly tried to make peanut brittle for my mom for Christmas... what a mistake! I burnt it and made a disaster in my kitchen! Next year I'll stick to giving soup-in-a-jar mixes :)

Texas Black Bean Soup
This recipe is great! I've made it many times, and each time it's a little different. I like to substitute Rotel for one of the small cans of green chiles. Also, instead of canned corn I use frozen corn(cheaper and better for you). Adding a huge dollop of sour cream and some shredded sharp cheddar just before eating makes this perfect. This was my dad's favorite on those chilly ice fishing days :)

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue
Love it!! I have made this so many times, and every time I do it gets rave reviews. I always add in an onion and about four garlic cloves. Another nice addition is red pepper cut into medium-sized pieces. Just don't forget the brown sugar! This is definitely one of my favorites :)

Vegetable Dip
This dip is awesome! I make this all the time to snack on with fresh veggies while I'm cooking dinner. I've left out the dill every time I've made it, but that's only because the first time I made it I didn't have any dill (one of these days I'll buy some). I also usually add in more minced onion, only cause I love it. Great to bring to any get-together!!
