Sauteed Apples

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
Oh these just RULED! I used granny smith apples and added a splash of Amaretto at the very end (dark rum would have been perfect, but I was out). Served as a side dish to "Pork Chops Modenese" from this site to rave reviews from the fiancee. Thanks for the great recipe, Jenny!

Florida Key Lime Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2014
SO good and so much easier than I'd ever thought Key Lime Pie would be to make. My only (small!) complaint was that there was more filling than my pie crust could hold. Not that I'm above eating the filling on its own out of a bowl! :)

Mushy Peas I

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2007
This was perfect! I've never been a huge fan of peas, don't mind them, but they're not one of my favorites. My fiancee, on the other hand, LOVES peas, so I try to come up with different ways to cook them so that we both like them, and I've finally done it with this recipe. From now on, this is going to be my default peas recipe - super quick, delicious, and easy clean up since I used my immersion blender and "mushed" them in the same pan that I cooked them in. Wonderful side dish - I served this with roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for a big, complete meal.

President Ford's Braised Eye Round Steak

Reviewed: May 4, 2014
SO GOOD! Tender and delicious - the next time I make this, I'll make mashed potatoes to go with it and thicken the cooking liquid into a gravy for them. It was so tasty that it was a shame to dump it!

Chicken Wing Dip

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2006
This dip is fantastic! I made it for a pot-luck BBQ we had at work, and by the end of the day I had to print up 5 copies of the recipe for my coworkers. Like a lot of reviewers, I substituted Bleu Cheese dressing for the Ranch, plus I used the "Buffalo Wing" flavor of Frank's Red Hot. One tip - make sure your cream cheese is room temp, and use a hand mixer to combine it and the hot sauce. It was a little diffcult to get everything to blend together by just stirring. Hand mixer solved that right away. My fiance suggested the next time I make this, I double or even triple the amount of chicken, shred it instead of chunks, and use it to make hot wing sandwiches. I can't wait to try that!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2013
So moist and dense and perfect. I added some chopped pecans to the batter, and I would do that again, they're nice in there. This bread made my house smell AMAZING.

I have no idea how "authentic" these are, but I do know that they were fast, easy, and mindblowingly delicious. THIS is a keeper.

WOW were these good. I used a pound each of ground beef and ground pork, but other than that made no changes. LOVED these.

Toasted Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2013
Made no changes other than almost tripling the recipe - we had a lot of seeds this year! Great recipe that I'll be using every fall from now on.

Rich and Simple French Onion Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2007
Perfection. Pure and simple. I made a few changes, out of both preference and necessity. I threw out the sentence "Do not brown the onions." because I think that's the best part. I used a beef and onion flavored beef broth, and a splash of dry cabernet sauvignon in place of the sherry, and instead of the provolone, swiss, and parmesean, I used shredded gruyere. The result was, hands down, the best French onion soup I've ever tasted. Thanks for this great recipe!

Indian Fish Curry

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2014
Wow! Amazing flavor and much less work that it initially looks like. I cut the cayenne down to 1 tsp and it was still fiery enough to cause the sniffles. I can't believe how rich and complex the flavor was. I'm saving this one, for sure!

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2006
This soup was absolutely delicious. I garnished with sour cream, shredded cheddar, and avocado, along with the tortilla strips, and it was so filling and perfect on a cold, rainy day. I'll be making this one again, that is, after we finish the bucket of leftovers!

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2014
I monkeyed with the recipe a bit, adding more garlic and cream, a splash of sherry, and a few fistfuls of fresh baby spinach, so I don't know how accurate my 5 stars is for the original recipe. That being said, YUM. This was delicious!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2014
It's a cold, snowy Wisconsin February night, and this was a PERFECT dinner for it. Thick, creamy, hearty, filling, and delicious! The only change I made was to stir in some chopped green onion at the very end of cooking, and it was a nice addition. Served with a loaf of French bread and some dark beer. Dinner was on the table in a flash.

Pork Chops Stuffed with Smoked Gouda and Bacon

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2014
Amazing flavor. The only changes I made were to cook mine indoors, starting them on the stove top and then finishing them in the oven, and instead of the olive-oil-salt-pepper combo, I used the grease from the bacon, some liquid smoke, and some steak seasoning. Loved the Gouda and bacon filling - will definitely be making this one again!
