Best Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2002
This soup is unbelievable. I'm not a big soup fan, but it sounded like it'd be different and tasty - and it is. My 10 and 11 year olds had seconds and thirds (they didn't care for the zucchini - but they're kids!) Like some other reviewers, I thought there wasn't quite enough liquid, so I added about one more cup of beef broth and about 1/4 cup more of wine - just right for our taste. I also didn't use fettucine - thought it would be hard to consume in a soup, so instead I used spinach penne pasta - it was perfect. I made plenty so I gave some to neighbors and they all loved it. Thanks for the recipe.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2012
i don't like cake and I don't like to bake, but I had to make a dessert for a potluck dinner. I chose this recipe because of the ratings it had. I followed the advice of another and used mini chocolate chips.....don't really know if it made a difference taste-wise. I did have to bake it about 15 minutes longer than written. Took the leftovers to work and it disappeared! And, as someone who doesn't like cake, I thought it was fantastic (everyone else thought so too!). I also want to comment on the people who rate lower on this recipe based on their own changes. I strongly feel you have no right to rate the recipe if you've made your own changes or additions to the recipe. Make the recipe as written, then rate away....it's not fair to the person who submitted the recipe to have it slammed for changes you made.

Patty's Mashed Turnips

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2000
My husband and I are on a low-carb diet - turnips are very low carb - so I decided to fix this. I'm normally not fond of turnips, but this recipe is excellent - it reminds me of mashed potatoes.

Steamed Radishes

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2001
My husband and I are on a low-carb diet ...radishes are very low-carb. Anyway, I fixed these and loved them! My husband couldn't believe they were radishes. Cooking them and adding butter took away the bite and bitterness and left them mellow and sweet.

Pico de Gallo Chicken Quesadillas

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2004
This was quick and easy to make. I don't know what the people were talking about when they said it took too long to chop everything. It was no longer than to fix a typical evening meal. I will say that I did use the pre-cooked and sliced southwestern chicken slices (I'm sure that saved quite a bit of time - other than that I followed the recipe exactly. It was soooo good - especially the pico de gallo. The grocery store didn't have any jalapeno peppers - just anaheim - still turned out excellent. My husband and I are on a low carb diet - we just used low-carb tortillas, gave the kids flour tortillas and it was great. (I followed the advice of another reviewer - I sprayed olive oil in a pan, placed a tortilla on the bottom, placed all the ingredients on, put another torilla on top, sprayed it with olive oil and baked in a 350° oven for about 10 minutes and it turned out perfect.

Thanksgiving Leftover Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2001
I was looking for a way to use up my leftovers from Thanksgiving - this was perfect. Although I don't like to stray from following a recipe before I try it, I did (a little). I followed the recipe accordingly, but I also added a 15 oz. can of mixed vegetables over the turkey, and instead of the stuffing mix (I didn't have any), I crumbled up about 10 "buttery" crackers (Sociables) over the mashed potatoes, then drizzled the melted butter over that. This was heavenly. My kids aren't big turkey eaters, but they (as well as myself and husband) had seconds and thirds on this. This is definately a keeper.

Barbequed Thai Style Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2003
Excellent chicken! I thought the cilantro would be overpowering, but it wasn't. The taste was delicious and even my picky pre-teen children loved it. I used boneless chicken breasts, grilled about 7 minutes per side and they turned out moist and tender. I'd serve this to even the pickiest eaters because the taste is so flavorful.

Teriyaki Flank Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2006
This is unbelievable...I let this marinade about 2-3 days. My kids ate it up like candy and asked for it at least once a week. I had a good flank steak marinade I'd been using, but this tops it! Thanks.

Veggie Pizza

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2001
When I was reading the reviews of this recipe I couldn't believe that it could be that good. Wow, was I wrong. This was delicious. I recently had an appetizer party and this was the first to go. My 7 and 8 year old also couldn't get enough. I will definitely fix this again.

California Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2009
I only made two changes to this recipe (but I'm sure it's great the way it is). I added just a little garlic to the chicken (we love garlic) and I grilled the chicken instead of sauteing. I agree with others that it may be easier to dice the tomato (and even the avocado) to make sure you have all the ingredients in one bite. Excellent and easy recipe!

Harvest Rice Dish

I really like this dish. It has a very hearty and rich flavor. I thought that six onions might be too much, so I used five. Still very good.

Baked Beans, Texas Ranger

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2002
I thought this was just ok. For my tastes, it was too sweet - but the rest of my family liked it. They'd give the recipe a 4-star rating. If I were to change anything, I'd use more beans and less brown sugar and maybe a little more worcestershire sauce. The onion, bell pepper and sausage were a good addition.

Veal Stew

I don't cook veal that much because I'm just not used to the flavor - but this recipe is fantastic. My meat-picky kids liked this too. It smells heavenly cooking.

Cheesy Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 30, 2002
Wonderful recipe. Everyone loved it - I even liked it and I don't like meatloaf. Because my husband and I are on low-carb diets, I substituted the bread crumbs for some crushed pork rinds (only about 3/4 cup). I also didn't have enough mozerella on hand, so I mixed the mozerella with some shredded cheddar I had - was fantastic!

Broccoli and Cheese Brunch Casserole

Loved this recipe...so did everyone else. The only discrepancy was that it took much longer than 45 minutes to cook...closer to an hour and a half. Worth the wait!

Green Turkey and Cheese

This was kind of bland - it needed something to moisten it up - maybe eggs. Also needed some sort of seasoning.

Sausage Breakfast Pizza

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2006
This was great. I had to change a few things because I didn't have everything on hand. I added onions (about 1/3 cup, raw), instead of ground sausage, I had to use maple links - I sliced them thinly (about 8 of them), and used a blend of mozzarella and cheddar. I did have to cook it longer than suggested - I cooked it about 30 minutes. Easy and tasty recipe.

Bok Choy, Carrots and Green Beans

This is really simple and tasty. I didn't have any shallots or green beans so I subsituted onions and sugar snap peas. I also added some bean sprouts. It turned out great. The kids thought it was ok, too.

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2003
I did not like this at all. I followed the directions exactly as written...the consistency was too thick and "gritty," the taste was much too salty, and I thought there was way too much of a parmesean cheese taste. I served it over pasta for my kids (who love alfredo sauce) and they wouldn't eat it.
