About this Cook
I began cooking as a preteen and have never stopped! I still make some of the recipes from long ago - but love trying new foods and techniques. Amazing how the availability of fresh ingredients has improved over the years - makes cooking so much more interesting! A note to young cooks - all recipes are a base - don't be afraid to experiment and change them to fit your family's tastes. Cooking should be fun, not robotic!
My favorite things to cook
Lovely Comfort foods - Roast Chicken, Pot Roast, Braised Short Ribs., Salisbury Steak. All with a special touch or two to make them uniquely mine! Yummy baked goods - Ginger cookies, Kentucky Derby Pie, Devils Food Cupcakes with 7 Minute Frosting, Cheesecake - pretty much anything sweet!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas Eve Dinner - always a 4 course yum fest, but always make ahead easy to insure family time! Special Sunday Brunches with friends - individual Dutch Babies with Fresh Fruit is a favorite!
My cooking triumphs
Holiday Cookie Trays - at least 12-20 types of cookies and candies,
My cooking tragedies
Anytime I try to do a meringue of any kind. Always end up with a weepy gummy MESS!

Cranberry Chicken I
Great recipe. I use Russian or Catalina dressing if I can't find French. Yes, the ingredients look odd, but the flavors meld and are quite delicious! This is a lovely "red" recipe to make for Valentines Day or a Christmas Party. Use any chicken pieces you like - multiplies easily, I have made for 20 without issues. Serve with rice and carrots - YUM!

Chef John's Dutch Babies
I make these often, delicious with a fresh fruit side of strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries. I invested in 6 small cast iron skillets, and everyone gets their own - a favorite breakfast on the weekend - so easy. I don't clarify the butter - an unnecessary step. Lemon and confectioner's sugar is critical!

Slow Cooker Boneless Turkey Breast
I have made this for years without the onion soup using a bone in turkey breast. It always works well and produces a very moist breast. Particularly great in the summer when you don't want to hear up your kitchen but are craving turkey! Or when you are having a crowd and want to have meat for turkey sandwiches. Just make sure the Souza you buy will fit in your crockpot!
