Ras Malai

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2011
I was so excited about making this due to the rave reviews. However, it was really disappointing. None of my guests liked it. I have to say that the sauce was delicious! And you could for sure get away with making half the sauce recipe unless you plan on drinking it. The cheese dumplings/cakes just weren't that good...kind of dry. Perhaps overcooked them. On goes my search for a good and easy dessert that incorporates rose water :(

Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
This is a geat icing recipe! I put in on carrot cake, and it was really easy to make, and really easy to work with. Worked great for piping through a pastry bag. I had a lot of requests for the recipe. Light and not too sweet!

Pumpkin Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
These are so delicious! I even screwed up the recipe because I wasn't paying attention (added the flour after the chocolate and pumpkin, oops) and it STILL came out so delicious. Cut back on the butter by 1/3 also because I live at 5200 feet, and they were amazing.

Classic Waffles

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
These waffles came out perfect texture-wise. I admit I made some additions...cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice, and I replaced the butter with pumpkin puree, and they were awesome! They really don't need the butter!

Best Peanut Butter Cookies Ever

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2007
Wow! these are so supurb and addictive. I was really worried about them when the batter was crubmly when I rolled them into balls, and then when I transferred them to cool, they tended to fall apart. But once they cooled, they were chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside. So delicious! Definitely a keeper! Who needs to add all that butter that most PB cookies call for? Tasty hint - they are really good frozen as well!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IX

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2007
Really delicious alternative to traditional butter-laden oatmeal cookies. I was worried when I saw how crumbly the batter was (more like sticky wet granola), but I just went with it and they stick together to form soft, chewy cookies. If you bake them until they are almost burnt around the edges, they are nice and crispy on the outside!

Chicken Soup I

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
This was an excellent combo of vegetables and the broth had superb favor. I was not able to blend the veggies since i don't have a blender or processor, but it still came out really delicious. Also didn't have dill on hand so i used thyme. Will definitely make again.

The Rebbetzin Chef's Persian Walnut Cookies

Reviewed: May 26, 2007
These were very easy to make, and I used nonstick spray on foil and they did not stick. However, they had a really metallic flavor. I think there may be way too much cardamom, or perhaps I needed to use a better quality rose water. Not sure. I will try this again because I like the idea of the cookie and they have a nice crispy texture, but maybe I will use way less cardamom, leave out the rose water or replace the cardamom with cinnamom or the like. Bakers, definitely stick to teaspoon sized balls when making them, they spread big time.

Pumpkin Flax Quickbread

Reviewed: May 23, 2007
Very moist and flavourful! I had to substitute the applesauce because I was out, so I added a half cup of plain yogurt. I also added walnuts and chopped dates and raisins. They were a hit, will definitely make again.

So delicious and moist! I can't believe this is a vegan cake. Could even use less oil I think.

Poppy Seed and Banana Muffins

Reviewed: May 15, 2007
These were really good. Not quite as moist as desireable, but perhaps that was because I didn't have any germ so I added ground flax instead. They have great flavor and chewy texture. Will definitely make again.

Asian Coleslaw

Reviewed: May 9, 2007
This was super delicious! I left out the veggie oil because i didn't think the dressing needed it, and it tasted great without it. A dash of sesame oil was a nice touch.

Tahini Cookies

Reviewed: May 7, 2007
These are quite tasty given they lack all the bad things that make a cookie good. They are nice and chewy, and raisins give them a nice burst of sweetness. They are more like chewy granola bars made into cookies, so I think it would be better to press the dough into a brownie pan and cut them into bars.

Mmm-Mmm Better Brownies

Reviewed: May 1, 2007
Very good considering they aren't loaded with butter. I even used only about half the oil because I was short, adn they are still chewy, moist and flavorful.

Brown Rice and Black Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2007
Delicious! I was skeptical at first about the relatively small amount of rice, but it was perfect. I also cut the cheese by about half an it was still very satisfying. Added some chopped fresh cilantro too, nice touch. Thanks for a good hearty recipe!

Arrabbiata Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2007
Very good, quick and easy. One of the first sauces I have made that didn't come out too watery. The only things I would change are to add less red pepper flakes (I like spicy but I thought it masked the other good flavors in the sauce), and I would use maybe half the sugar. It was a little too sweet. But otherwise, a great sauce.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2006
These really are the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever baked. They look and taste just like the pilsbury kind in the tube only they are homemade! I had heard that melting the butter makes for better cookies, so I too melted the butter slightly (not to a liquid but to a very soft consistency). Wallah!

African Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2006
very tasty...i substituted firm tofu for the chicken just to make it a little heart healthier, and i also added a little garam masala curry powder, which was a nice touch. needs a bit more water (or broth) because it was a little thick and sticky. but overall very satisfying.
