Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
Decadent and oh so sinful. So good. I couldn't quite get them to rise after rolling them out, so I preheated my oven to 200 degress, shut it off, and then put the rolls in the oven with a towel over them while the oven cooled down. It worked perfectly and they rose beautifully. I also used just regular flour because I didn't have bread flour and they turned out just fine. I'll definitely be making these again and again and again. Thanks for the recipe! ONE LAST THING..... Since there's no way we could eat these at once, I made the icing and save it in a plastic container and then we heated the rolls as we ate them and then spread the icing on after we heated each. So good! UPDATE!!!! Just made these again. Heavenly. Turned out perfect again. Letting them rise in a semi warm (definitely not hot) is definitely the way to go.

Chocolate Orange Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
Delicious. I added about 1/4 cup extra flour so the dough was stiffer. I don't like flat cookies. They came out perfect. Not dry. To make the orange flavored part look "orange" I added about two drop of red food color and maybe six drops of yellow. They looked really pretty. I also topped them with chocolate by melting about 3/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips in the microwave. I ended up putting a large drop of chocolate on the top and then took the back of the spoon to spread it a little. Added to the richness of the cookie and also took the presentation up a notch. I'll definitely make these again.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
Sinfully rich. I doubled the recipe and baked in a 9 X 13. Had to bake for an extra 7 minutes. I didn't have enough cocoa so I used a container of chocolate icing on top. I microwaved the container for about 30 seconds and then stirred it before spreading so it wouldn't peel of the top layer. Delicious.

Artichoke Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2008
Definitely not a home run for me. The artichoke topping was almost separate from the chicken as they really don't combine to make anything. My oldest scraped the topping off and ate it instead of eating the chicken at all. This recipe definitely was not worth the calories and isn't something I'll make as it is again. I know that sounds so brutal, but if I'm going to splurge with this type of caloric and fat content, I want it to be as decadent as the calories and fat say it should be. I might try it again but would perhaps go with chicken tenders or maybe even bake it as a caserole with cubed chicken so they don't seem like two separate components (you had chicken and then you had topping, but they weren't one dish together). I might also be tempted to stir in some cream of celery soup, cream cheese or something to make it creamier. I'm sorry that this wasn't a home run for us, but it just didn't live up to our expectations. We love artichokes and love artichoke dip too so we were hopeful that this would be a great answer for our artichoke cravings.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2008
I've made this recipe about 8-10 times and it has comes out perfect every single time. The only regular change I make is I use olive instead of vegetable oil because I don't usually have vegetable oil on hand. Works just fine. We use this as our regular sandwich bread for the week. About half of the time I use half wheat flour and I always just use regular all purpose flour, never bread flour. Thanks so much for the recipe. It's a definite keeper.

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2008
This is my 9 year old daughter's review as she made it almost by herself. Very easy to make and very yummy. I (my daughter) made some popcorn balls out of it and they tasted really good. I can't wait to have this in my school lunch. Thank you for the recipe.

Choco Shortbreads

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
Just okay. I was really hoping that based on the amount of butter that they'd have more of a butter taste, but this didn't end up being the case. I made them for dessert and they were still there when we were ready for bed so apparently my girls weren't super impressed either. I'm sorry, but I just feel like I need to be honest.

Light Oat Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
Perfect! My daughters both love this and half the loaf is gone before I can even put it in a bag for sandwiches. I used quick oats as that's what I had on hand and used half wheat flour. The crust has this slightly crisp texture that is amazing. I set my bread maker to "light" for the crust and 1.5 pounds. This will likely be our regular sandwich bread.

Dog Treats I

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
Went together really fast. Other than soaking the oatmeal in the water with butter, I didn't separate any of the ingredients. I through everything in the kitchen aid and mixed it all at once. The dough was super easy to work with. We have little (like 5 & 9 pound yorkies) so we used a cap to a steak sauce bottle as our cookie cutter. We needed them really small and the cap made them about the size of a penny (perfect). We used chicken instead of beef and I used quick oats. Perfect! We'll be making these for our dog friends next Christmas. Thanks for the recipe.

Busy Day Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
This couldn't have been easier and the outcome was wonderful. My kids are off of school for the holidays so I am trying to keep some interesting things on hand for them to eat. I had a whole chicken, which I've never cooked one before, and was looking for something super easy that they would like. Totally scored with this one. I used a K.C. Masterpiece's brown sugar BBQ sauce. I didn't even measure it, I totally eyeballed it and viola, it turned out amazing. I think it took about 1 minute total to prepare including rinsing chiken. Thanks for the recipe.

Orange Juice Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
Sorry, but this one just didn't do it for me. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't what I ended up with it. It certainly wasn't horrible or anything, but just fell short of my expectations. I'm sorry!

Bou's Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
This was the first time I've ever tried to cook a whole cut-up chicken with bones and I'm not young and I love to cook. We eat chicken several times a week, but I have always just stuck with breasts, usually boneless. Well, whole chicken was on sale so I thought I'd give it a whirl. And boy was I pleased with the outcome. I followed this recipe to a T and it came out perfectly. All the different size pieces were cooked perfectly and evenly and the chicken was super moist. I found the sauce pleasantly mild as I was expecting an overpowering ketchup taste. I will definitely make this again. My kids weren't sure what was going on when I served chicken legs with their dinner since they've never seen me try to cook them before. I served this with simple white rice that I cooked in chicken broth and topped with a little parmesan cheese. Thanks for the recipe. This one is a keeper.

Butter Balls I

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
Considering how easy these were to make and with so few ingredients, I was delightfully surprised with how these turned out. I followed the recipe as written and they do in fact hold their ball shape for the most part when baked. They held up well over several days in a ziploc bag. They weren't what I'd call sinfully good, but definitely worthy of 4 stars in part due to how easy they are to make and that you're likely to have all the ingredients on hand.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
I used this recipe to break in my new bread machine and it turned out perfect. Great overall texture with a nice lightly crisped crust and very soft inside. I did increase my salt to 1.5 teaspoons as others suggested (thanks) and I used melted butter in place of the oil. I just the bread to make the best warm cheese sandwich. I microwaved the entire sandwich for about thirty seconds and the bread kepts it crispy crust and the inside just got softer. Definitely a recipe I'll make again and again.

Cherry Bars

This looked more like a cake than bars when I was done. They are very thick so just know one batch makes a lot since they are so thick.

Berry Shortbread Dreams

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
These were really good. I used strawberry jam in place of the berry because my kids love strawberries. Note: when filling the holes with jam, we used a plastic bag that we cut the corner like a pastry bag. So much easier than trying to spoon the jam into such small holes.

Savory Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2007
We all really liked this and it was quick and simple to make. I took advice from others and seasoned the chicken with salt, garlic powder and onion powder before adding the cheese. I did everything else as it called and then added a little garlic powder on the very top. 30 mins covered and then 20 mins uncovered turned out perfect. I made three larger breasts and used a glass baking dish that they fit perfectly in the bottom of so the sauce didn't spread out. I'll definitely make this again.

Waldorf Salad I

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2007
This was really good. I used granny smiths. I didn't have walnuts so I used chopped candied pecans. I also added a couple of small scoops of sour cream. I will definitely make this again.

Apple Betty

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
I made this with my two daughters and it is/was sooooooooo good. We took the advice of others and sprinkled a little cinnamon and nutmeg over the apples after we drizzled them with the maple syrup. We also had to add a little more flour (about 1/8 cup) to get the topping to a crumbly consistency. It took us all of ten minutes to throw the whole thing together including peeling and slicing apples. Thanks so much for the recipe. I would give it more stars if I could.

Crispy Chicken Strips

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
Really good and really easy. My kids loved these. I used garlic potato flakes because that's what I had on hand and also dipped in regular eggs because I didn't have the egg substitute. We dipped in ranch, ketchup and sweet and sour sauce. I served it an asian pasta salad. Definitely a keeper.
