About this Cook
I come from a family of bakers and cooks. I thought the baking gene passed me over since I never had much desire to get into the kitchen. That all changed in fall of 2006 when I started baking quick breads. I've been baking ever since, usually once or twice a week.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake muffins and cakes. Cakes are especially a pleasure since I live in the high desert of northern Nevada and I love to experiment with different ingredients and textures.
My favorite family cooking traditions
There really are no family cooking traditions, unless Thanksgiving counts. Even then we all cook something different each year.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumph would be a very light lemon cake with a blackberry jam filler and a vanilla buttercream frosting. Was a bit of a sugar rush... but tasted amazing just the same. It wasn't too lemony and the blackberry brought out the flavor perfectly!
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at my grandmother's rolls (and pretty much any other attempt at them unless my mom's helping me) They came out rock hard and tasting mostly of flour. It was embarassing.

Herbed Macaroni and Cheese
Very good. I crumbled some bacon on top when I baked it. Nice and creamy.

Healing Cabbage Soup
Very good. I did double the onion and garlic, also added a little sage. Very tastey.

Russian Tea Cakes I
I am so glad I tried this recipe! I absolutely love russian tea cakes and this recipe is very close to the one my grandmother had. Unfortunately I don't have her recipe... but this will suffice! Thanks for posting this recipe... it will get a lot of uses from me!
