This was awesome, though I have to give it 4 stars, as I changed it a bit... Here are my changes: used butter flavored shortening, and didn't have quite enough, so I added a couple of Tbsp plain yogurt. Also, used one jumbo Courtland apple (sweet rather than tart), and added a little cloves and nutmeg. We loved it! My husband said it was hard to stop eating, and between the two of us we polished off 2/3 of it. I would definitely double this recipe for our family.
Here's my latest version of this recipe - 2 bosc pears instead of apple, 1/4 tsp each of ginger and nutmeg instead of cinnamon, substitute yogurt for half of the butter, reduced sugar to about 3/4 cup - delish!
This is a great base recipe that can be customized with many different flavors, and it's quick to make too. Thanks!!
