Delicious Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2006
Delicious! This was my first attempt ever at making homemade bread and I am so pleased with how this turned out. The other reviewers had valuable tips, i.e., sprinkling the rosemary on AFTER the eggwash AND I used fresh thyme as half of the "Italian Seasoning" because I just happened to have some on hand. Definitely use fresh rosemary too. The house smelled amazing while it was cooking and it was super easy for a first timer but impressive enough flavor to serve guests!!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2007
Great seasoning! I did add a little cornstarch to help thicken things up but other than that I followed the recipe to a "T". I used 1 lb ground turkey, sprinkled on 2 TBS of seasoning and then added 2/3 cup of beef broth and the taco meat was delicious! Great recipe :)

Amy's Healthy Fruity

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
Really good staple recipe. I use vanilla yogurt in lieu of the plain just because it's a little sweeter and goes better with the fruit. No soy milk powder, but it's not necessary. I also did add ice. My 2 year old and I have these every morning for breakfast. Delicious!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2007
This is a fantastic recipe! I will never buy boxed brownie mix again. Delicious and moist and yummy. I took someone's advice and did not beat the ingredients in, but rather stirred them. That made for a less cake-like and more chewy texture. I also added chocolate chips as the last ingredient and that made them extra special. Thanks for the recipe!

Ginger Glazed Mahi Mahi

Reviewed: May 8, 2007
I have made this dish as originally written and with the simple substitution of rice vinegar for the balsamic. GO FOR THE RICE VINEGAR! Much better flavor, not as overpowering. I also grill the fish instead of frying it to make it a little healthier. Great flavor :)

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2007
Excellent basic sugar cookie recipe - I make this all the time now! To frost I use powdered sugar and milk, whisking just enough milk in to thin it so it easily spreads, but isn't so runny that it runs off the cookies. This is the easiest frosting ever and very easy to dye with food coloring to make festive cookies! It's perfect with this cookie recipe.

Beef Stew IV

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2008
Great basic recipe for a stew. I omit corn and use celery, use beef broth instead of water, and definitely add more Worcestershire and some A-1. Other than that, this is a solid recipe.

Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2009
Very good recipe. I used the exact rub for the chops, but they were only about 3/4 inch thick so I seared them on each side for 2 minutes, and then simmered them in broth (not bullion) for 15-20 minutes. Took them out and stuck them in the oven to stay warm while I reduced the broth a little bit and then added cornstarch/water. Made a lovely gravy for my mashed potatoes. I'll definitely be using this recipe again!

Pleasant Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2009
I thought this was a very tasty dish and went well over rice since there was lots of lovely gravy to wet the rice. Definitely going to be using it again! EDIT: I have made this numerous times now and have a couple of tips. One, definitely customize the cook time based on how thick your chops are. Tonight I made two bone in chops that were about an inch thick and they only needed to simmer for 25 minutes. Also, try it with beef broth sometime - DELISH!

Spinach and Orzo Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2009
This is a GREAT recipe. The first time I made it I didn't have any spinach on hand, but I did have broccoli I needed to use up. I blanched the broccoli for a few minutes and stuck it in ice water to cool, then drained it and let it sit while I made the rest of the salad. Be sure to only cook the orzo to al dente so that it soaks up some of the sauce when you mix it all together. Delicious and perfect for a picnic or barbeque since there is no mayo to worry about getting spoiled.

Zucchini Patties

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
I thought these patties had great flavor, but were a little more like a pancake than I had hoped for. I was looking for more of a hash brown/crab cake consistency, but they were very doughy instead. Next time I think I'll omit 2 of the eggs and see what happens. Overall a good recipe though! UPDATE: made these again using only one egg and got a much better hash-browny texture. Definitely a keeper!

Chinese Broccoli Slaw

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
This was DELICIOUS! I tried to make it a little healthier by using only a TBSP of butter and then spraying canola cooking oil on the ramen noodles before baking. I also reduced the sugar by half in the seasoning. I didn't have broccoli slaw, just two big heads of broccoli to use, so I cut them into bite size florets, shredded up half a bag of baby carrots and used that instead. What a wonderful way to get your raw veggies!

Lemon Bars I

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
Delicious! Followed the recipe exactly except I did add one extra tbsp of butter to the crust as per other people's suggestion. These are really easy and really good! If you are a big fan of lemon, you might want to add more zest/juice to the filling, but it's perfectly good the way it is as well.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
These are delicious! I use the slicer attachment on my food processor to slice the potatoes thinly and then layer half the potatoes, pour half the cheese, then layer the rest of the potatoes and then pour the rest of the cheese. I do put a little more cheese in the sauce because we like it cheesy. My only issue with these have been that the cheese burns around the edges - I reduced the cooking temp to 350 and cooked for 1.5 hours and they were perfect. Removed foil for last 20 minutes or so to get a nice golden brown crust on top. YUM!

Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
This was absolutely perfect! It was my first time making a pumpkin pie, so as I poured the filling in and it was runny I was worried! Never fear, it came out beautifully and set up just the way it should. I used the pumpkin pie spice II recipe from on here and it was delicious.

Smothered Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
This is an excellent recipe, with a few tweaks, in my opinion. First, I used no onion. Once I browned the bacon I removed it from the pan, drained all but 1 TBSP of the fat, then added the green beans and garlic to saute for about one minute. I then added 1 cup CHICKEN BROTH (in lieu of water) and covered the pan. Towards the end of cooking I removed the lid (to let the liquid evaporate) and added the bacon back to the pan just to warm through. Great flavor and a great alternative to my usual roasted green beans. I will definitely be making these again and again!

Juicy Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
This is a good recipe and very quick and easy. I marinated my chops for about 6 hours, and I really think 12 hours would have been too much, but that might be because they were very thin to begin with and soaked up a LOT of the flavor. I hadn't broiled pork chops before, but was pleasantly surprised how quickly and well they cooked. Very moist and tasty. I also added about a TBSP of brown sugar to the marinade like some suggested. All in all it was very yummy and a hit with the family!

Perfect Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
Very good apple pie flavor! I did not use this crust recipe, but rather Ina Garten's Perfect Pie Crust, which is my all time fave crust for any pie, so I cannot rate the crust. The filling was perfect, though, and this will be my "go to" recipe from now on :)

Proper English Cottage Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
This was just ok. It's certainly not an "authentic" tasting Cottage Pie, but it was a flavorful meal, once I tweaked it a little. Worcestershire sauce was a must and I will omit the cinnamon next time. Nutmeg would be more authentic anyway.
