Dinners have been on the table about 6:00 PM for most of the 48 years that we’ve been married—through the vicissitudes of life, as they say---through work schedules,
children’s schedules, sick times, joyful celebrations, stressful times.
Most of the recipes I made came from friends, newspapers, or magazines.
The food changed with the nature of the times. But when I retired from my job as a school guidance counselor, that’s when I really started to cook!
And that’s when I stumbled on Allrecipes.com.
I have no idea how I found it--probably looking for something new and interesting to make while trying to figure out how to keep a schedule in my life.
After all, for most of my life I’d been getting up early to get to school.
I’d been looking through recipes all my married life, but not on the Internet, so it was fun to run into this website where people actually told you how they reacted to a recipe.
After almost a year I found the Recipe Exchange (aka Buzz), and I found a whole new world.
There was so much fun reading the banter among such fun people as SunnyByrd, Janine, michellej, and Virginia Mom.
I felt like I knew these folks! How scary it was for me to finally post a question.
That was back in June of 2008, after about a year of lurking there.
Those who answered my post about how to cook crab were names you know—Pamela D, Stacy (formerly kaffaful), CindyLepp, and Virginia Mom. Then I got braver and braver.
Now, 1000+ posts later I still am at it!
I remember well when two members, ambibambi and goosegreetings, met in person.
How cool was that?! It wasn’t much longer after that when I met Pattycakes at a nearby shopping center.
That went well, so we decided to meet again several more times.
The third time is when we met at the new Five Guys hamburger place, and her sweet daughter, Tina, came, too.
We decided then and there to have a big get-together here in SoCal.
We announced our plans, and Baking Nana stepped up to offer her lovely home to us.
Our history was set!

Good friendships have been cemented.
It’s no secret that allrecipes.com has played an important part in my current life.
My family members know the names of my AR friends. They are patient with me while I take photos of our food before serving it.
Most of all they love the food I’ve learned to make—and so do my friends and neighbors, too!
I look forward now to more good food, more AR innovations, more new friends, more memories.
No wonder allrecipes.com has become the number one Internet site for food!
