Egg in a Boat

Reviewed: May 19, 2011
We called them Gas House Eggs when I was growing up. I still make them. Only thing different, is that I do TURN IT OVER - carefully - after I let the egg cook on the underside, in the hole, a bit. Also, if you don't want to flip it, you can put a lid on the pan while the egg is cooking.

I only had OceanSpray 100% juice Cranberry/Pomegranate juice. I used a packet of Stevia sweetener instead of sugar. Extra juice/milk - love it.

Cranberry Salad VI

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
I loved the concept of the ingredients but found that I needed 2 cans of the whole cranberry sauce or else half of the other ingredients to get the full cranberry taste. Maybe the brand of sauce that I used didn't have enough berries, but with another can it is very good.

Jalapeno Snacks

I have not made this yet, but similar ones. To reduce "heat" make sure you cut out all the VEIN that the seeds grow on. Makes the jalapenos very mild that way.

BREAKSTONE'S Fruit-Filled Coffee Cake

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
I used Comstock MORE FRUIT Cherry pie filling. I like lots of fruit. Also, used two 9 in. round pans, so I could give one away. I lined the pans with waxed paper, so I could turn them out before putting the nuts and glaze on. 2nd review: I now have used a Lemon Cake mix, and lemon pie filling. Then sprinkled a generous 1 C. of thawed frozen blueberries on top. I have lots of pecans so normally use them. It turned out great!! Also, tried a jelly roll pan one time. Too much batter for that = it ran over the sides when baking.

Chococonut Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2008
I have a similar recipe (1/2 recipe) About 1/2 C. coconut (it may not give flavor but makes it sweeter, so I use less white sugar. I like the idea of oatmeal. I also bake the half recipe in a 9 x 13 pan (lined with wax paper) for bars. 350º 8 - 10 min. Same could be used for full recipe but longer baking time.

Gourmet Cucumber Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
Great taste, but I haven't used the oranges. Have used raisins when out of grapes. Use my own boiled chicken. A sprinkling of dried Tarragon and onion powder while boiling, really adds to the flavor of the dish, too.

Great tasting treat! I made 1/2 batch and put into two 2.5 x 5 in. foil pans. Gave one away, and the lady who doesn't even like raisins loved this bread!

Frosty Pumpkinettes

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2007
I used Butter Pecan ice cream as that is all I had at the time. I give it a 4 Star because I think the Ginger is a little too much, or maybe the molasses, or the combo. Just a tad bit too strong. It overpowered any pumpkin flavor. Great idea, though. Will try again with the adjustments.

I had a friend's recipe so used this to type it up - combined the two. Use toasted Pecans. Orange Juice or Apricot Brandy. Add 1 tsp. Vanilla; 1/4 tsp. Almond Extract. Grease and flour cookie sheets. And best of all = Slice with Elec Knife

Less stars if I could. A waste of good ingredients! WAY too sweet, and they crumbled, too. Just not my style of cookie or candy.

For powdered sugar - If you have a coffee bean grinder, try putting granulated sugar in it. Makes a nice powdered sugar. No additives, and fluffy. I don't like using non-dairy creamers with the hydrogenated fats.

I love these! I did change to Butter instead of margarine (stay away from all transfats) along with the oil. And choc. chips instead of butterscotch. I make 1/2 batch for just myself, but make large cookies. If I don't overbake them, they stay chewy til the end!! Love that!!!

I haven't made this yet, but my grandmother used to make a Banana/Peanut salad. You might try mixing the Peanut Butter in the sauce, and then LAYER it along with chopped peanuts over sliced bananas.

Is something missing? I ended up with NOT a creamy mixture. Too much flour, or not enough of something else. Too powdery to roll out.

Is the amt. of flour correct in this recipe?? I had it halved by the system and the cookies just melted all over the cookie sheet. Even dripped off the edges, it was so runny. I now have them in a baking dish to finish cooking into a bar. Or something. ?? Help!!

Angela's Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2005
I thought the recipe was much too salty, but it was my own fault. I halved the recipe so used a small packet of the Dressing. Now, I find that the ingredients are not comparable to the correct larger packet which has buttermilk and whole milk solids. The packet that I used was mostly salt, and contained no milk solids whatsoever, and tasted accordingly. I will have to try it the right way.

Easy Southern Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2004
I just made half a batch for myself. I should have made a full one! I lightly oiled my AirBake cookie sheet and made drop biscuits out of them. Put them pretty close together so they could attach a little. I added onion powder, garlic powder and dill = Mmmmm!!! Might want to watch the baking time the first time in case it makes a difference from being in pans.

Chocolate Therapy Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2003
If the amount of flour is correct in this recipe then I give them a one star. I am making them now, and added about another cup of flour before baking the second batch. Only way that I would make them again. 2/3 C. of flour is not enough unless you really want a flat cookie for your therapy.
