About Me
Grew up on a working ranch and learned to cook from my mother. Cooked for harvest crew's and hay crew. Married young and have 4 grown children and great grand kids.
I am also teaching a cooking class at our church. This is a real challenge as some of the ladies just "have to have a recipe". I cannot cook without one, they cry. I use a recipe as a road map only, and this is frustrating to me and I do have to be careful not to show any emotion on my part and be sure to give praise to those learning. This I can and do always. My mission is to make them aware of the methods of cooking and show them "how to apply " these methods to the best of their ability.
My favorite things to cook
Cheesecakes, Italian, and just good basic food.
I am putting together a recipe book for my family, a collection of mine, mothers, my two grandmothers and adopted extended family mothers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Large dinners at Holiday times in the past. Today there is two of us and I am learning to scale down. I cannot do large dinners any longer since my stroke. I drop things and my left hand does not work as it should. Hard to roll out pie crust and make rolls.
My cooking triumphs
Personal chef to a family from Mexico a few years ago until I had my stroke. I did many great dishes for them to their taste. Also cooked for a diabetic until they passed on, and they were very pleased with their meals.
My latest is creating cakes and using a friend as a guinea pig. So far they have been a hit. This next week it is a birthday cake for a member of our "care group". Cheesecakes are a specialty also.
My cooking tragedies
Making applesauce and burned the pot beyond repair. Made a batch of rolls and they were like bricks. At present,I am recreating a muffin recipe and I just about have it..The taste is there but need to be a bit more moist. Adding an additional egg yoke and another spoonful of sour cream.. It is where I want it to be. If it passes the test at church, I will be submitting it to the site. Then I will move out of the tragedies to the triumphs.
I moved to triumphs!!
