About this Cook
My cooking triumphs
I somehow managed to hold my first "extended family Christmas party" at my house this year, with a huge assortment of homemade desserts and hors douvres. It was a great success!
My cooking tragedies
I once made what I thought was going to be Beef Stroganoff for my then-boyfriend (now husband... he married me even after this horrible cooking disaster). I had no recipe, but I thought I remembered how my mom had done it when I was growing up. I ended up using way too much sour cream, entirely too much butter, and for some reason, I even added a little ketchup. It was so sour and greasy that the dog wouldn't even touch it! And this was a dog who would dig potatoes and onions out of the ground and eat them... dirt and all!

Chef John's Perfect Prime Rib
This is my go-to method for prime rib! I have a son with Asperger's who is very, very particular about what he will and won't eat, and he absolutely LOVES prime rib. The only thing I do different is I use 2tsp crushed garlic rather than herbes de Provence. I mix the garlic with butter and kosher salt, and spread over the roast before cooking. It's wonderful!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
It makes very pretty, huge cookies, but they are WAY too sweet and rather bland. My kids loved them.

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast
I do tweak this recipe, but the basics are the same. I make a paste using 1T olive oil, 1T kosher salt, 1/4tsp black pepper, 1/2t rosemary, 1/2t dried thyme. Cover the roast with the paste (top, bottom, both ends) and I cook just as directed. I have never had a bad roast using this method!
