Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2008
This bread was ok and probably would have been great if I knew how to work with yeast more. I thought the yeast was ready because of it's foamy appearance and I didn't think my water was too hot, but I let the dough rise for 1.45 hours and it didn't double. I put it all into one bread tin and let it rise for another 1/2 hour and this made a huge loaf. I only used 1/4 cup sugar like other reviewers suggested but I think I will add more next time. I'll make it again and hopefully give it a better rating next time.

Orange Chicken Stir Fry

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2008
I really liked this chicken and sauce. I served it with rice and Costco stir-fry. I accidently used pineapple-orange juice but it was still great. I will try it with orange next time. I thought the citrus flavor was a good change up from other stirfrys. While this won't be a weekly recipe I will definitely make it again. I'd like to experiment with adding onions and ginger.

Slow-Cooked Pork Barbecue

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2008
I liked the taste of this recipe. It almost tasted even better the day afterwards because the sauce had thickened. I used diet cola instead of regular, and I liked it, but I think I'll use regular next time just to see if there is a difference. We usually eat chicken and pork is a nice way to mix things up. Thanks for a great recipe!

Italian Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2008
A college roommate always used to use this recipe and I think it's good. All the salt isn't needed though. Italian dressing already has enough flavor.

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2008
I am so glad I tried this recipe. I followed another reviewers advice and just used 4 apples and cut the serving size down to 20. This made enough to fill a container for just my husband and I. I do think that this would make a good Christmas gift like other reviewers stated. I didn't use cloves because I didn't have any on hand and I'm not really a clove person. I added a little more cinnamon though and vanilla. Next time I make this I am going to add more apples and less sugar. I'd also like to try it with half brown sugar. However, this is probably just personal preference. I don't have a huge sweet tooth. This was delicious though. I started it about 8pm and let it cook overnight. This morning I woke up and used my hand blender to blend it a bit and had it on a piece of toast on the way to work. Wonderful!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
I really liked the flavor of this. I followed others' advice and lined my pan with tin foil. I also broiled at the very end to make a crust with the glaze. I did not use thighs. I used Chicken Breast Tenders Strips from Costco. These worked fine, but they needed a lot less time then indicated for the thighs. I will use this recipe again. Thanks!

Army SOS Creamed Ground Beef

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2008
I wasn't a fan AT ALL of this recipe. I felt like I had to eat it so I did, but it was not flavorful at all and I added onions and way more worchestire sauce. (I also made it exactly as directed.) It also looked about as good as it tasted. Yuck! Not a keeper. I can't believe it got so many good reviews.

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2008
I LOVED this recipe. It has a great kick. I followed other reviews and took the chicken out after I sauteed it, and then made the sauce. My husband isn't a mushroom eater and I was worried he wouldn't like the balsamic vinegar, but he thought this was great as well! (Mushrooms included.;) Thanks for a great recipe!

French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
My husband liked this recipe more than I did. It just seemed like there was too much going on with it and I was expecting it to taste more like traditional French Dip Sandwiches. I usually like herbs but the Rosemary overwhelmed this and made it more different than I thought it would. These sandwiches were good, but not great, and I will continue to look for a better recipe.

Apple-Cheddar Tossed Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2008
I LOVE this base salad. I will admit that I haven't made the dressing yet because I don't have any cider vinegar on hand, but I wanted to post a review anyways. I added avocado and used a red wine spritzer (1 calorie per spray) by Wishbone. This was a perfect and filling lunch. Will make the recipe as described next time.

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
My husband and I liked this recipe and I will add it to my recipe box. I doubled the sauce because a lot of reviewers said to do this and I like a lot of sauce, but I had enough left over to feed an army. Instead of wine I used reduced sodium, fat free chicken broth. I used one can chicken soup, and one can mushroom, as well and chive and onion cream cheese. I didn't think it was too salty, but it's probably not that easy on your waste line. Next time I'm going to try it with fat free or reduced fat cream cheese and maybe add fresh chives, mushrooms, garlic, and onions, for a fresher taste. It tasted great with broccoli and rolls though. Thanks for a great recipe.

Campbell's® Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2007
This was a good base recipe. Sometimes it's nice just to have a few ingredients, and this was a nice addition to the more complex dishes I served during Thanksgiving. Thanks for a great recipe! Will use again.

Sweet Potatoes for Two

I topped these with marshmallows, and took another reviewer's advice and sliced them up and cooked them for a half hour before I followed the recipe. I loved these! Thanks so much.

Slow Cooker Chicken Creole

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2007
I was excited to make this recipe but was disappointed in the taste. My husband politely said it was "good" but I think my expectations were a little high. I added more garlic, tomato paste, and more onions, but this wasn't the homemade wonder that other reviewers depicted. I'm not saving this in my recipe box.

Lahmahjoon (Armenian Pizza)

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
Coming from an Armenian family, I grew up on Lahmahjoon. Making this on a tortilla is definitely easier, but it tastes more authentic on flat bread, (which is much more time consuming.) I moved from CA to UT and can't find ground lamb anywhere here. I made this recipe with beef and it still tasted good, but I prefer the lamb. I didn't follow the recipe exactly, but I felt the mixture of spices was pretty accurate. By the way: I love rolling Lahmahjoon up with lettuce and tomatoe in the middle. It makes a great sandwich.

Strawberry Spice Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2007
I had a lot of extra strawberries so I was looking for something to do with them. This bread was okay but it wasn't phenomenal. I felt like it was missing something. I added a teaspoon of vanilla and more strawberries...but I felt like it needed more doctoring.

We really liked this recipe. I used cilantro instead of oregano and also made homemade salsa which made a huge difference. I am definitely keeping this in my recipe box.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2007
I had rated this a 4 but I'm going to rate it a 5. I made it again with "Ruth's Grandma's pie crust" from this site and I thought it tasted great. Such great comfort food! A good recipe to make every few months.

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
I really liked this recipe. Like others, I felt the sauce needed to be doubled, although the sauce in itself is very delicious. I also added a teaspoon Worchestire sauce which I think tasted really good. I baked at 400 degrees for 30 minutes and then broiled the potatoes for about ten. My husband enjoyed this.
