Sweet Potato Potato Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2006
We've made this recipe at least twice recently & it still comes up a winner. Incredibly addictive taste - once you start you can't stop. It is a definite recipe to keep esp for picnics & hot summers.

Cauliflower-Cheese Soup

Made exactly according to recipe and it was absolutely delicious! Used lite milk instead of full-cream for a healthy version and still ended up thick and creamy and full of taste. Definitely a keeper.

Egg Scramble

Fantastic recipe - easy to make and tastes great. Like others I also added some bacon pieces which tasted good. I tripled the amount of spinach which went well, but as I like more greens, will be adding even more next time. Will definitely be making this again!

Avocado-Shrimp Salad

Fantastic recipe - so easy to make and healthy to eat. Also added some red capsicum. Found the onion bit too overpowering, so next time will cook it lightly before adding. Otherwise great recipe - will be making again.

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
Oh my God! This recipe is AWESOME!! I generally don't like salmon but this had an incredible taste - definitely a keeper! I used fresh breadcrumbs cut into roughly 0.5-1cm pieces which gave the salmon such an amazing mouth-watering texture. Can't wait to make it again!

Chef John's Quiche Lorraine

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2012
Fantastic recipe! I didn't follow it to the T, as I have a bad habit of speed reading and not necessarily catching all the details. I substituted onion for spring onion as had a lot of the latter growing in the garden. Then mixed the bacon together with the onion-leek mix which turned out fine. We didn't fill the mixture to the top of the dish as we were afraid it would overflow, but now realised we should've as the centre mix will sink a bit as it cools, so next time we will make sure to fill it right to the top. We also made the pie dough and for a first timer, who wasn't too fussed with specific weights/measurements, it turned out fine. I was actually quite surprised how well it turned out and am sure will be making more pie crusts in future instead of going to the supermarket. Highly recommended - I would make this dish again!

Jamie's Minestrone

Fantastic soup recipe - definitely a keeper. Tastes so healthy and delicious. I didn't have much tomato sauce but instead added 4 cans of diced tomatos without problem. Yum Yum!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2013
Agree with most of the reviews - this is a delicious recipe. We added spicy italian sausage and it added a zing to the dish! Also added in some left-over vegies - in future I will add more in, as I like a meal to be balanced with not too much meat. Also will omit the sugar - really isn't necessary but guess it all depends on one's taste buds. Yum Yum! Will make again!

Bouillabaisse

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2012
Oh my GOD!!! This is SUCH a fantastic dish!!!!! I couldn't get over the flavours it produced!! I added more fennel leaf and thyme as had heaps to use in the garden. Otherwise pretty much stuck to the recipe. Only thing was I found cleaning and debearding those mussels a bit time consuming but this was my first time, so hopefully get faster at it next time! Hubby couldn't believe I'd made such an amazing dish! lol! I will definitely make this dish again.

Cabbage and Dumplings

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2011
Made the recipe incorrectly as we got confused about the flour and water bit - only later did we realise the boiled water and the water to add to the dumplings were different. I boiled up some chicken stock - then just added the flour directly into the boiling water and wondered why we couldn't get a dough-like consistency doh! Anyway we were still able to make small balls and drop them into the boiling water to boil. Taste was as other reviewers reported, a bit bland, but this is good in that you can still add things - I added chinese sausage to the mix and it tasted good with it. Will also reduce the amount of butter added too, as it became greasy after a while. Reckon I'll make this again.

Seared Salmon with Indian-Inspired Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2012
Interesting combination, yet it works! We had a lot of mushrooms and celery so added about 3x the amount and so ended up with less liquid in the sauce but the taste was still great! Will consider making again...

Grilled Rosemary Pork Chops

Reviewed: May 5, 2013
Very simple recipe - I just reduced the soy sauce by a tiny bit and even so found it a bit too salty for my taste. Otherwise tastes good. Have heaps of marinade left over - could've marinated twice the amount of pork chops with it... Next time will add more fresh herbs than just rosemary.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
Instead of flour, I coated the chicken breasts in whisked egg and then breadcrumbs, otherwise followed the recipe as stated. Came out quite yummy! Chicken was tender, sauce was very tasty. I must say our sauce turned out somewhat brown after we added it to the saucepan after cooking the chicken (I hope this was what we were supposed to do!) and I note on the picture the sauce appears white? Or are we meant to cook the sauce in a separate pan?

Pumpkin Stew

Nice warm hearty meal. All the ingredients soften adequately as per the receipe. We added other vegies we had including potatos, sweet potatos, turnips. Then right at the end we added brocolli and zucchini. Great meal - easy to make and very filling - will make it again.

Fennel Risotto

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
Wonderful vegetarian recipe! Just a few minor changes - I used light thick cream and also added some fresh mushrooms as well. Also used fresh parsley which I think gives it a bit more flavour than dried. Tasted quite yummy with some white wine! We were meant to have it as entrees before the roast turkey but hubby went back for a second plate in lieu of the main course...! Definitely a keeper!

Whole Wheat Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2007
I made a mistake in placing the dry & liquid ingredients together before chucking it in the blender. But in the end it was all still good - the mixture still rose. I added some frozen blueberries just at the end which ended up being good. I also made a mistake & added olive oil instead of vegetable oil but in the end the muffins were moist, yummy and not too sweet like you get when you buy the pre-made mixtures at the supermarket. Overall a healthy and easy recipe to keep in the cookbook!

Chili con Carne II

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2006
I changed the number of servings for 5 & was shocked at the amount of seasoning used! As it was, it was way too chilli hot but then again I did use hot chilli powder instead of regular(!) So then I ended up doubling the amount of diced tomatos which certainly helped. I didn't have any cinnamon sticks, so just chucked a heap of powder in & it still tasted good. Overall this delivered quite a good spicy result - I had it with baked potatos & sour cream and the taste was heavenly! This recipe is a keeper.
